Biden’s Bad Start
To the Editor:
“America is a Constitutional Republic, its fundamentals being the rule of law and individual rights,” says Allen West, Chairman of the Texas Republican Party. He goes on to remind us, “We have three co-equal branches of government: the legislative, executive, and judicial.”
It occurred to me, but I can’t say it as well as Col. West has, “Sadly, the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, by executive order, just eliminated the 1776 Project, basically admitting that he disregards the establishment of these United States of America.”
Where does that leave the citizens of the U.S.? The new president does not seek to govern via the rule of law, but by executive order. Not even two weeks past his inauguration, he has signed 40+ executive orders. For what purpose? According to The Washington Examiner, “To push forward his agenda.” The report goes on to state, “Sen. Chuck Schumer (now Senate majority leader), wants Biden to bypass his chamber entirely.” “He can do many, many things under the emergency powers ... that he could do without legislation,” Schumer has suggested that President Biden consider declaring an emergency on climate change.
Schumer added, “Trump used this (emergency powers) for a stupid wall, which wasn’t an emergency.” To Schumer, the invasion of Texas by a caravan of people from other countries for various reasons was not an emergency. But, if there ever was an emergency, climate is one. Apparently, Schumer thinks Biden and his “team” can control weather. If Mr. Biden has such power, why didn’t he use it earlier in his career, during his 40+ years in government service?
Even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s staff admitted in July, 2019, the Green New Deal “wasn’t originally a climate thing at all ... we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”
As Obama demonstrated during his term in office, government executives can create “emergencies,” not waiting for legislation, to expand their powers.
I find the fact that Trump continues to be vilified a disgusting jealous reaction. In no way was Trump “enabled” by Republican elected officials in his four years as President. He kept many of his campaign promises while those who resisted his leadership did not keep theirs. The current Democrat leaders and some Republican elected representatives continue to vilify Trump even though Biden has been installed in the White House, which, to me, is a great emergency because “Biden’s team” has already proven to be a huge impediment to a citizen’s pursuit of life, liberty, and pursuit of freedom.
