“Almost Wendish Fest” to Be Held Sept. 27

Many folks living in and near the Warda area have family ties of Wendish descent. The Wendish museum and heritage society in Serbin is changing things up a bit this year. Although there won’t be a Wendish Fest as we’ve come to know and love, there will be an “Almost Wendish Fest.”

This event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church picnic grounds, and will include a pickup meal of delicious sausage, Wendish noodles, pickles, beets, sauerkraut, green beans, bread and peaches. Plates are $12 each and tickets can be purchased at the museum, Holy Cross in Warda, Immanuel Lutheran and First National Bank in Giddings, Tritech in Northrup or by calling (979) 366-2441 or emailing the museum at museum@texaswendish.org.

The picnic grounds are located five miles southwest of Giddings at FM 2239 and CR 212. After you pick up your meal, you are encouraged to stop by the drive-through country store where you can purchase uncooked Wendish noodles and sausage, pickles, sauerkraut, pot holders, hats and other great Wendish-related items. St. Paul Lutheran Church, which is one of the painted churches of Texas, will have a combined English and German service that day at 9 a.m.

Come out and celebrate the rich heritage of the Wends here in Texas and help raise some funds for the society.

Sewing Circle

Sewing Circle meets each Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to noon. They would love to have you join them. If you would like more information, contact Cindy Heselmeyer at Cindyhesel@yahoo.com or just come out and join in on Thursday morning. They meet in the old parish hall around the back side of the church.

Bible Study

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran Church are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible class follows the Sun-day morning service.

Midweek communion service is held the first Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m.

Sunday School

Sunday school for kids (kindergarten through grade 8) is now in person.

Faith Lutheran High School

FLHS will be selling 8x8 chicken spaghetti casseroles, available for pick up on Tuesday Sept. 29. Pre-orders only. The cost is $20 each. Pick up is at FLHS or Immanuel in Giddings from 4 to 6 p.m. To order, call (979) 242-2889.

Classes at FLHS are officially in session. Everyone is welcome to join their weekly Chapel Worship service held every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m.
