Nancie Blair was a busy lady recently. She, her mom, Elaine Lang, and sister, Lu Ginapp, all traveled to Indiana to visit Nancie’s brother and sister in law, Art and Linda Lang. While there, they decided to take a tour around Chicago.

Balloon Magic Show

Marking the end of the Wednesday morning Fayette Public Library’s summer reading program, Robb Holladay performed his Magic Balloon Show at the Casino Hall Wednesday, July 27. Throughout his performance, Holladay invited individuals from the crowd up to the stage with him as he told stories and made various balloon animals and objects. On Thursday, Aug. 4, the annual Summer Reading Party in the Park will be hosted outside the library from 5 to 7 p.m. and all are invited. More photos on Page C4. Photo by MaKenzie Givan

Local Ballet Students Win National Acclaim

Multiple local ballet and dance students competed last month at the Dance Showcase USA National Finals in Fort Worth held June 20-26. The students received an incredible reception and multiple high awards. Competing against over 1,000 contestants, and 30 studios from five states, this was On Pointe’s first time to bring a full group performance to a National Competition.

Alyssa Otto Elected to Gamma Sigma Delta

Alyssa Otto of Schulenburg was elected in Spring 2022 to the Texas A&M University Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta, the International Honor Society of Agriculture. Otto is a senior majoring in Animal Science. To be eligible for the A&M Gamma Sigma Delta, a membership invitation is sent to those ranked in the upper 20 percent of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences based on your cumulative Texas A&M University GPR. Gamma Sigma Delta is an international honorary society, the purpose of which is to promote and recognize the academic and other achievements of individuals who excel and work to contribute to the understanding and furthering of agriculture and related sciences. Otto is a 2019 Valedictorian graduate of Schulenburg High School. She is the daughter of Keith and Stacy Otto of Schulenburg, and granddaughter of Harvey and Gloria Oeding of La Grange, the late Nolan L. Bruns Jr. of Schulenburg, Barbara Otto of Shiner, and the late Kenneth R. Otto of Shiner.

Erica Otto Named to Dean’s List

Erica Otto of Schulenburg was named to the Southwestern University Spring 2022 Dean’s Honor Roll as well as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honor Roll for Southwestern University Softball. Otto is a freshman student-athlete majoring in Kinesiology / Pre-Med. To be eligible for the Southwestern Dean’s Honor Roll, a full-time undergraduate student must complete a semester schedule of at least 12 academic hours and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.60. To qualify for the SCAC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the term and be a regular member of a varsity athletic team in a sport sponsored by the conference. Otto is a 2021 Salutatorian graduate of Schulenburg High School. She is the daughter of Keith and Stacy Otto of Schulenburg, and granddaughter of Harvey and Gloria Oeding of La Grange, the late Nolan L.
