Srubar Family Holds 50th Reunion In Plum
The descendants of Frank and Barbara Prasifka Srubar met for their 50th annual reunion on Sunday, July 19, in Plum, celebrating 145 years in America.
The first Srubar reunion, held in 1975, was reported by the Fayette County Record on Aug. 1, 1975. Frank and Barbara Srubar (first generation in America) immigrated to America in 1881 from around the Trojanovice and Frenstat areas in the Moravian-Silesian Region of Czechia. Their daughter, Marie, born on Dec. 4, 1880, traveled with them. Frank and Barbara settled about three miles west of La Grange and had six other children: Frank, Joseph, Charles, Anne, John, and Anton.
Marie died at the age of 19, and John died at the age of 12. Their other children prospered, married, and grew their families to currently seven generations in America.
This year’s reunion, hosted by the Anton Srubar family branch, started with 10 a.m. Mass celebrated by Fr. Luke Prihoda (a Srubar descendant) at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum, with Mass intentions for all living and deceased members of the Srubar Family.
After taking a family photo, a roast beef lunch catered by Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg was served. This was followed by social time and then the reunion meeting.
Descendants who had passed away since the last reunion in July 2025 were remembered: Angeline Kopecky Srubar, Walter Ritchie Sr., Irene Jochen Prihoda, Edward Matocha Jr., and Roberta “BJ” Stayton Kovar.
Special recognition was given to the oldest living male attendee-Hank Holub, the oldest living female attendee-Margaret Schulz Matocha, the longest married couple attendees-Hank and Maxine Kiesling Holub, the newest married couple attendees-Cody and Sierra Srubar Cavazos, the newest born attendee-Callum Cavazos, son of Cody and Sierra, and those who travel furthest to attend, Will and Jennifer Flemming with their sons, Bailey and Charlie.
