Theodore (T.C.) Mensik, longtime farmer and rancher in Weimar and Holman, died peacefully at home on Aug. 13. He was born March 22, 1924 in Holman and had just celebrated his 100th birthday this year.

He married Dorothy Berger on Oct. 22, 1955. They had 68 wonderful years together and lived all those years on their farm north of Weimar.

T.C. served in World War II as a sergeant in the US Army, squad leader 313th infantry in the 79th division of the European Theatre Company. He received a purple heart when he was wounded in France. He tells everyone that he walked across Europe, only once were they transported by truck. T.C. and his four brothers all served in the military, and all came home.

After he came back from the service, he wired electricity for the first time to many homes in the Weimar area, including the home of his future wife, Dorothy. This is the same home they lived in today.

T.C. and Dorothy were always a team. After retiring from farming, he helped Dorothy manage the Weimar Dairy Queen for 25 years. They loved dancing the Czech and German polkas and waltzes and were members of a polka club for many years.

T.C. was preceded in death by parents, Josef P and Matilda (Charbula) Mensik, three sisters, Elizabeth (infant), Mary, and Annie, and four brothers, Emil, John, Albert, and Cyril. His dad immigrated from Czechoslovakia to the Holman area when he was 16 years old.

T.C. is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and four children: Dianne Martinez and husband Noah, Linda Wagner and husband Mike, Gary Mensik and wife Sharon, and Mark Mensik; six grandchildren: Chad Wagner (Casey), Dustin Wagner (Holly), Lena Leemhuis (Jacob), Emily Roseberry (Ryan), Joshua Martinez (Andrea), and Alexis Perez (Eladio). He is also blessed with ten great grandchildren: Brady, Ryder, Landon, Nora, Anderson, Ethan, Sawyer, Hudson, Naomi, and Addison.

Visitation was held at Hubbard Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 16, from 5-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 410 N. Center St., Weimar, with burial in St. Michael’s cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chad Wagner, Dustin Wagner, Brady Wagner, Joshua Martinez, Jacob Leemhuis, and Ryan Roseberry.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Michael’s Church or school.
