Kovar
Roberta Jo “BJ” Kovar went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in La Grange, Texas at the age of 63.
BJ was born in Tomah, Wisconsin on November 7, 1962, to Harold “Punk” Stayton and Joan (Brown) Stayton. She attended school in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, Florida, and Texas. The family’s rodeo life brought BJ to Texas when she was fifteen years old. BJ worked for the Steiners, Hutto ISD, owned her own cleaning service, and later helped care for the elderly.
On June 19, 2010, she married her true love, Mark Kovar.
BJ loved to barrel race, take care of her miniature horses, cattle, her donkey, and pot belly pig, whose babies went to her grandchildren or some child that wanted a miniature horse or calf. BJ loved the beach and going gambling, but mainly she loved attending family gatherings and going to the grandchildren’s games, events, and shows. She was also a HUGE fan of her Green Bay Packers.
Not only did BJ’s family get to experience her kindness, but also her generosity, and her heart of gold. She touched the lives of many from newborns and on up. She had a power that would pull them to her. BJ loved her family and it was no secret that she loved her grandbabies. She was the best “Mimi” to all of her beloved grandchildren.
BJ is survived by her loving husband, Mark Kovar of La Grange, TX; daughter, Sonni Reid (Kyle) of Lometa, TX; son, Cass Slover (Kara) of Comanche, TX; stepson, Brent Kovar (Cassie) of La Grange, TX; her cherished nine grandchildren: Hadly, Cooper, and Chayni Reid, Rahely, Keaton, and Jade Slover, along with Colson, Carson, and Blair Kovar; her mother, Joan Stayton of La Grange, Texas; sisters: Terrie Wilkins (Charley) of NC, Tammy Samuelson of NC; Connie McClain (Donny) of La Grange, TX; brothers: C.J. Stayton (Karen) and Skip Jones (Lisa) all of OK; along with numerous loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold “Punk” Stayton and other cherished family members.
BJ was a kind, generous, big-hearted person who will be dearly missed by all.
