Cernosek
Edwin “Corner” Cernosek, 92, of Cypress, passed away on June 30, 2024, at St. David’s Hospital in Round Rock.
Edwin was born in Holman on May 8, 1932, the son of Jim and Daisy (Griffith) Cernosek. Edwin was the third of six children born to the family of three sons and three daughters.
Edwin attended Pecan Catholic School in Holman through the 8th grade and began high school in La Grange. He decided to leave school to join the United States Air Force during the Korean War in 1951. He was stationed in San Antonio, San Angelo, and Bryan. He received his G.E.D. while serving in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955.
After his military duty, Edwin went to Blinn College in Brenham where he received an associate business degree. He moved to Houston and started working for Brown & Root Construction in their accounting department. He later worked in accounting for Houston Lighting & Power until he started his own businesses in milk delivery, fence construction, and real estate.
Edwin married Georgia Mae Kana on April 26, 1958, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. The couple was blessed with three children, Gary, Susan, and Michael.
Edwin was known to his family and friends as “Corner” and used that as a pen name to author a number of original country and western songs. He professionally recorded “My Holman Home Ain’t Home Anymore” which can be heard on KVLG radio Saturday mornings on the Old Music Show hosted by Corner’s long-time friend and collaborator, Dan Mueller.
Edwin is survived by his son, Gary James Cernosek and wife, Kerri Cernosek, of Cedar Park; daughter, Susan Kay Cernosek of Cypress; son Michael Jim Cernosek of San Antonio; grandchildren, Austin, Courtney, Rachel, and Christian Cernosek; brother, Frank “Jack” Cernosek and wife Donella Cernosek of La Grange; sister, Lillie Mae (Cernosek) Tiedt and husband Weldon Tiedt of Houston; and sister, Rosalie (Cernosek) Stevenson and husband Kenneth Stevenson of La Grange. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Edwin is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Mae; parents, Jim and Daisy Cernosek; brother, Richard Cernosek and wife Amalie “Molly” (Machala) Cernosek; and sister, Frances (Cernosek) Kana and husband John Kana.
A visitation is scheduled Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 1-7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. with a vigil held at 6:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church at Plum.
