Hay Show Returns for 59th Year During The Fayette County Fair

The Schulenburg Young Farmers will hold their 59th annual Hay Show on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3, in conjunction with the Fayette County Fair in La Grange.

Judging will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026 at the Emily Fritsch Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. The hay show sale will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Emily Fritsch Pavilion.

Hay produced in Fayette County in the spring and summer of 2026 can be entered in the following classes.

• Class 1 - Coastal

• Class 2 - Other Bermuda grasses

• Class 3 - Other perennial grasses

• Class 4 - Mixed grasses

• Class 5 - Sorghums

• Class 6 - Winter annuals (oats and ryegrass)

• Class 7 - Legumes and Legume grass mixture 

Grand Champion Winner will receive 1,000 lb. of fertilizer donated by La Grange Farm and Ranch. They will also receive 10 bags of jumbo ryegrass, and one bag of safeguard wormer cubes donated by BWI, Schulenburg.

Reserve Champion Winner will receive 1,000 lb. of fertilizer donated by Bumper Crop Texas, Schulenburg. They will also receive five-50lb. jumbo ryegrass donated by BWI.

Each 1st Place Class winner will receive a 200 lb. sweetlix 20% protein tub with Clarify donated by BWI.

Winners will receive a plaque donated by Ed and Jennifer Moeller.

An entry fee of $10 will pay for the cost of the testing. Hay entries can be dropped off at the following locations:

• MG Farm Service Center, Weimar

• Farmers Co-op, Schulenburg • La Grange Farm & Ranch
