Baseball Playoffs

The La Grange baseball team (12-13) will face Houston Furr (14-1) in a one-game bidistrict playoff series, set for Thursday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Montgomery. The winner of this series advances to face the Georgetown Gateway/Salado winner in the second round of the 4A playoffs.

Tucker and Mihatsch Advancing to Regionals

The La Grange varsity tennis team competed at the District Tournament in Caldwell on April 25 and 26: The Mixed Doubles team of Phoebe Tucker/Gage Mihatsch won 2nd place to advance to Regionals, where they will play Saturday May 11 at Rudder HS in Bryan.

Softball Playoffs

• Schulenburg’s softball season came to an end last week with a loss to Charlotte in a best-of-three bidistrict playoff series. The Lady Horns lost 10-0 and 5-1. Kinley Tillery pitched a complete game in both contests for the Lady Horns. Hailey Kahlden scored the long run for Schulenburg in the second game. The loss brings an end to the coaching career of Gilbert Price, who is retiring this season after 17 seasons leading the Lady Horns. He won 241 games over that span. Loren Besetzny has been hired as the new Schulenburg softball coach and her husband, Cameron will be an assistant football and assistant track coach at the school.

Shorthorns Place 9th at State Golf Tournament

The Schulenburg golf team finished ninth out of the 12 teams at the 2A state golf tournament held this week at Lions Municipal Course in Austin. The Shorthorns shot a two-day 692. Sonora won the team title with a 626.

Hall of Famer Returns to Schulenburg

48-Year Coaching Vet Tidwell Hired to Lead Lady Horns Hoops Larry Tidwell will return to Schulenburg to coach high school girls basketball. A legend in women’s hoops and a Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee in 2021, Tidwell has compiled an overall record of 548-245 as a head coach at both the high school and collegiate level.

Lady Leps Win Softball Playoff Opener 23-0

The La Grange softball team blasted Houston Wheatley 23-0 Thursday at Rice Consolidated to win their 4A playoff opener. Thursday’s victory vaults the Lady Leps into the second round where they will face Salado in a best-of-three series in Thrall.

One Last Meet as a Lep

One of the most elite sprinters in La Grange High School’s history has one more track meet as a Leopard. Austen Diggs is the defending state 4A champ in the 200 meters, the school record holder in the 200 and the 400 meters and has accepted a track scholarship to Baylor.
