Believe it or not, high school volleyball season is just three weeks away. Teams can begin practicing Aug.

Nearly 170 Angelo State University student-athletes, including James Brown of Schulenburg, have been named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2022 spring semester in recognition of their hard work in the classroom.

La Grange I.S.D. announced this week that only transparent backpacks would be allowed when students begin school next month.

La Grange higher school track throwing standout Riley Youens is heading to North Carolina for the AAU Junior Olympic Games in August again this year, this time in three events. Javelin is her best event but she also excels at shot put and discus.

Fayette County’s most decorated coach is about to get the ultimate honor. On July 11 in Arlington, legendary Round Top-Carmine volleyball coach Tanya Nygrin is going to be inducted into the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

La Grange star lineman Jaren Woods (a senior-to-be this fall) has verbally committed to accept a scholarship offer to play college football for Baylor University after graduation. Woods has been a highly recruited prospect with offers from Vanderbilt, Auburn, California, Houston, North Texas, TCU, UT, Texas Tech and Yale in addition to Baylor. He becomes the second member of the LHS Class of 2023 to commit to a big-time D-I football program. Two months ago, Leps defensive back Bravion Rogers verbally committed to play for Texas A&M. Verbal commitments are non-binding. The earliest recruits can formally accept a scholarship offer in writing is in December.
