1983 State Runner-Ups Reunite

The members of the La Grange baseball state runner-up team from 1983 held a reunion earlier this summer to share memories of their magical season.

The Leps carried a 25-5 record into the state tournament and beat Gladewater in the state semis, as Jody Supak and Daniel Tamez combined on the pitching effort and Brent Vasut, Supak and Darrell Moerbe each had two hits.

In the state title game La Grange led 2-1 going into the seventh inning but Kenedy scored two runs in the last inning to win it. Vasut and Craig Prause scored the two runs for La Grange.

Both the state semifinals and the title game were played on the same day, Friday June 10, 1983, because of a power outage in Austin that postponed the Thursday semis.

Team members included: Ron Voss, Rocky Rau, Gary Walker, Mike Sharp, Brent Vasut, Gary Fowler, Craig Prause, Jody Supak, Doug Rogers, Chris Mudd, Darrell Moerbe, Daniel Tamez, Greg Weaver, Baron Bennetsen, Assistant Coach Harvey Moerbe and Head coach Richard Fletcher.
