The Spaghetti Dinner prepared by the Winchester Area Civic Association (WACA) to benefit the Winchester 4-H Club has been postponed from Sunday, Sept. 10 to Oct. 22 at Zilss Hall. The dinner will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be drive thru or eat in. Nicolette Morrison, WACA President is requesting everyone who wishes to contribute money or ingredients for the meal, to contact Barb Schafer at (254) 644-0336 or email at richardbarbschafer@ gmail.com. All proceeds will benefit the Winchester 4-H Club.

The Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, also known as the Carmine Hall, will be conducting a monthly gun and gift card drawing on the third Tuesday of each month from September 2023 through August 2024. Three tickets will be drawn each month-two for guns and one for a $500 gift card. JW’s Steakhouse is underwriting one of the $500 gift cards. Round Top Real Estate will also give one of the $500 gift cards.

German Visitors This week our home was honored with a visit from Holger and Leon Niehauser from Bunde, Germany. Holger is an elder in the church that holds the baseball camp I have gone and coached at.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday, Aug. 29 Fayette County Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 at the 664 mile-marker at approximately 10 p.m. for a traffic violation. Deputy Williams contacted the operator who was identified as Rommel Sanchez (60) of San Antonio. Consent to search the vehicle was given. Deputy Williams located two rectangular shaped items wrapped in cellophane and black duct tape, common with methods used to smuggle illegal narcotics. Deputy Duane Meagher arrived on scene to assist. The bundles contained a dark brown tar-like substance which was field tested and tested positive for Heroin. It was later determined to be approximately 2.4 kilograms in weight. Deputy Williams placed Sanchez under arrest for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (1st Degree Felony) and transported him to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center for booking. Schulenburg Police Department assisted.
