A few weeks back I wrote about the gardening experiment I conducted in the pasture where I’ve been feeding hay to my cows. I’ve been feeding them hay in this spot for several years.

The AMEN Food Pantry continued to be remarkably busy in the month of April. A total of 396 families were served for the month for a total of 1215 individuals. Food donations received were 6,615 pounds. Looking back to 2023, the pantry served 256 families and required eightyfour volunteers for a total of 154 hours. A total of 185 volunteers for 314 hours served the pantry this past month. This indicates the increasing food need in our area.

May is Historic Preservation Month and as part of that effort, La Grange Main Street is holding a contest to help locals better appreciate the architectural features that are preserved in the downtown business district. Look at the above close-up picture and if you think you can identify where this is, cut out this entire box, fill out the below information and return it to the La Grange Visitors Bureau Building located in the Historic Casino Hall (254 N Jefferson St.) during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) before this Friday. On Friday all correct answers will be placed in a drawing for a prize provided by Main Street and the Visitors Bureau. Next Tuesday we’ll print the winner along with the next week’s contest. Round Top Family Library hosted a commercial drivers license class put on by Smithville Workforce Training Center. Six students graduated from the class on April 24. One of those was Joshua Matus. He already found a job as a truck driver for U.S. Field Services in Giddings.

Round Top Family Library hosted a celebration on Thursday, May 2nd, marking its announcement that its campus has been renamed The Faith and Charles Bybee Foundation Campus. Despite earlier torrential rains that day, the skies cleared just in time for a perfect evening of festivities with over 100 people in attendance.

M Carl and Carolyn Caflisch have been busy beautifying Muldoon. They cleaned up, painted and put new flowers on the Little Lending Library in front of the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Station.

Holman Valley Steakhouse will be hosting Curtis Grimes with other special guests on Saturday, May 18 for the second annual Benefit Concert with proceeds being donated to Turtle Wing Foundation. “For those that know me, know how close this is to my heart,” said Wendee, owner of Holman Valley Steakhouse.
