Carmine Park to Get Upgrades Thanks for LCRA/Bluebonnet Grant

The City of Carmine will construct a new concrete plaza and renovate the flood-damaged pavilion at Muehlbrad-Albers City Park, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative.

Wanted Federal Fugitive Arrested After Trying to Flee on a Motorcycle in LG

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 28, the Fayette County Narcotics unit received information about a wanted subject with an active federal arrest warrant staying in the La Grange area. The information received indicated that the subject was known to be armed and dangerous. The narcotics unit located the subject staying at the Carter Motel.

LG Garbage Rates Could Be Going Up

Waste Management wants to raise garbage rates for La Grange residents by 10 percent. The company’s contract with the City, which expires in 2026, allows Waste Management to raise rates by no more than five percent annually.

Kerr Joins LG City Council

La Grange City Council voted unanimously last Monday to appoint Bryan Kerr to the vacant Council seat representing Ward 4. Kerr has lived in La Grange for the past eight years.

LG Council Talks Budget, Insurance Spikes

La Grange City Manager Fred Bell reported at last Monday’s City Council meeting that he has been meeting with department heads to formulate next year’s budget. The City hired Bell earlier this year to replace former City Manager Shawn Raborn, who retired last year. Bell praised the City’s history of financial stability. He said the City’s sponsorship of the Munigas Corporation many years ago has helped to keep the City on a sound financial footing.

New Roles at City of La Grange

Hannah Garlick has left her job as the City of La Grange Director of Community Development and Tourism for a role at Fayette Savings Bank. In her absence, Caleb Parks, the La Grange Main Street Manager will handle the grant/economic development portion of Garlick’s job until a replacement can be hired.

Alyssa Otto Graduates from A&M

Alyssa Jade Otto of Schulenburg graduated Magna Cum Laude with Department Honors from Texas A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in College Station on May 11. Her bachelor of science degree is in animal science. While at Texas A&M she was a member of Texas Aggie Cattlewomen and Saddle & Sirloin Club. Alyssa completed internships at P Bar Whitetails in Bullard in the summer of 2021 and at Deseret Cattle & Timber in Wewahitchka, Fla. in the fall of 2022. She will matriculate into the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine this fall to pursue her DVM. Otto is a 2019 valedictorian graduate from Schulenburg High School. She is the daughter of Keith and Stacy Otto of Schulenburg, granddaughter of Harvey and Gloria Oeding of La Grange, the late Nolan L. Bruns Jr. of Schulenburg, Barbara Otto of Shiner, and the late Kenneth R. Otto of Shiner.
