Farmers Lumber Company held a grand re-openeing celebration last Thursday for their historic storefront at 150 N. Jackson St. in La Grange.

“The ultimate goal is to turn it into some kind of retail space,” said Farmers Lumber General Manager Walt Jackson.

Farmers Lumber operated out of the Jackson St. storefront before building the new retail store facing Travis St. in 2001.

“A lot of our older customers remember coming in here,” Jackson said.

The space sat largely unused for the past quarter century. Jackson said the building had deteriorated and the company needed to do something with the space.

“It was getting pretty bad,” he said. “Ceiling panels had fallen through. So we started cleaning it up. Then the board decided, ‘Let’s restore it.’” Conard Construction completed the remodel. Farmers utilized products from several of their vendors, including premium shiplap from supplier WindsorOne for the interior walls.

Representatives from WindsorOne and distributor Gaiennie Lumber Co. were on hand for the re-opening celebration, along with former and current employees and many long-time customers.

Conard Construction catered a barbecue meal for the event.
