Fayetteville Sets Big Plans to Celebrate America's 250th Birthday
Plan on heading to the Fayetteville square on Friday, July 3 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. for America’s 250th birthday celebration. Free hot dogs, beer, wine and sodas will be served up along with live tunes by Ella B and Robert Herridge.
A big shout out to hosts of the festivities: The City of Fayetteville, the Greater Fayetteville Chamber and the Fayetteville Community Center.
City Council
The next City Council meeting takes place this Monday, June 15 at 7 p.m. in the City offices. City Council meetings are held every third Monday of the month.
Fayetteville Fire Dept.
Residents are reminded by Chief Noviskie to please display your 911 address so first responders can locate your address during emergencies.
The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall is sold out. However, everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the organization that serves, protects and keeps our community safe.
Raffle tickets can be purchased from any volunteer fireman, at Cadence Bank, Joe’s Place, Orsak’s and Fayetteville Propane. Direct contributions can also be made by mailing a check in the envelope recently sent to local mailboxes. Contact Rodney Sladek at (979) 249-6868 for any information.
Name Change
Cadence Bank will close on Thursday, June 18 and open at their usual time as Huntington Bank on Monday, June 22.
Shelby American Legion
The American Legion Post 602 Shelby invites all veterans and the public to a Flag Retirement Ceremony and Breakfast this Saturday from 7:30 a.m. till 9 a.m.. Freewill donation. Please bring unserviceable flags or drop them off in the container in front of the Fayetteville museum. The flag retirement ceremony is at 9:30 a.m.
Join in or bring a chair, and enjoy a stellar lineup of local bluegrass musicians who pick and sing at Picking Park on the square this Saturday. They get together the second Saturday of each month from January-November and keep the tunes flowing from 2 p.m. until they’re ready to pack it in.
2nd Sunday Polka Dance
The Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce is hosting its “2nd Sunday Polka Dance” this Sunday at the Fayetteville Community Center from 2-5 p.m. Admission is free.
Come on out to hear the popular polka band, Czech Melody Masters, anchored by original members Dennis Svatek (lead trumpet, lead vocals, and music arranger), Dave Bedrich (trumpet and vocals), and Thomas Dumin (stand-up bass). The sound is rounded out by Rob Schmidt on drums, Stephen Svatek on baritone, valve trombone, and guitar and Ed Kopecky on accordion, guitar, and vocals.
All are welcome to bring a food item to share at the community food table. Beverages are available for a freewill donation.
Church News
St. Paul Lutheran holds services on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Services are recorded every week, rotating among four Shared Lutheran Ministry churches and posted on the Facebook page for the Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County. Services are also featured on KTIM 89.1 Sundays at noon.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville holds Mass Saturdays at 5 p.m., and Sunday’s at 10 a.m.
St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger holds Mass on Sunday’s at 8 a.m.
Worship services at Fayetteville Brethren are held on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of every month at 10 a.m. An adult Bible Study is held before the worship service from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
