Cowboy Church Gears Up for Roping and Fall Round Up

The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church has big plans coming up. They have a Friday Team Roping coming up on Sept. 18 at the Fayette County Sheriff Posse Areana. There will be buckles for the first and second average winners. For more information, please contact Butch Murphy at (281) 380-7788.

The 4th Annual Fall Round Up at the SG2C Fall Round Up is being planned for Saturday, Oct. 3. They are getting ready for a wild west fall festival with lots of cowboy fun. Everything from a real chuck wagon lunch to the pony rides and so much more including a heifer raffle. Chances are available from any SG2C member for $20. There also will be vendors on site with all sorts of wares to be check out and purchased. Mark your calendars now and make plans to come out to the family friendly event. Birthday Celebration 

Juliet Hill celebrated her eighth birthday with a birthday party at Flatonia Pizza Company in Flatonia. She had a great time with classmates, church friends and family. They played games, ate pizza and garlic knots, then they all enjoyed birthday cake, cupcakes along with a cookie cake and washed it all down with lots of water.

Bible Study Beginning 

There is still time to get in on the Ladies’ Bible Study on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Flatonia Baptist Church. The study is on the book of Galatians and is led by Gretchen Andrew. Out and About 

Thanks to the ridiculously hot weather most jobs around the house are on hold so short road trips are in order. Ron and Pam Knotts decided recently to head toward the Houston area and were inspired to spend the afternoon having a good meal at Babin’s, one of their favorite seafood restaurants. Eating late on a Saturday afternoon means the place was quiet and unhurried. Always a favorite, the French bread and butter got the program started while the menu was studied. Planning on dessert for later Ron and Pam decided to skip the appetizer and order a special entree. Wanting to try something different, the Snapper Pontchartrain was elected. Topped with shrimp, crawfish, crabmeat, mushrooms and a brown butter sauce, it was unbelievably delicious. As the meal was finished and the plates were cleared it was time for the classic Key Lime Pie. While getting set with tea for the road the server mentioned that she was planning a trip to Las Vegas for her upcoming 21st birthday. Stories continued about travel and vacations and soon Ron and Pam had the name of a good fishing guide company in Florida. It was such a nice way to turn a boring hot day into a pleasant experience.

Jennifer and Clay Rightmer enjoyed a quick visit from Jennifer’s sister, Julie Zavala of Georgetown. She slipped in to spend Saturday night with them in the country before heading back to the city on Sunday morning.

Hot and Dry 

Muldoon has been just plain hot and everything is drying out. Please use caution when mowing grass or using any implement that could possibly cause a spark. Fires are far too easy to start during this parching heat. Rain is promised, but when it will fall is the question.
