The Writing’s on the Wall at LGISD

The new La Grange Elementary building is getting its final touches, including signage last week.

Last week in big gold letters, the words “La Grange Elementary” were hung on the side of the new entryway to the school, as the finishing touches of the La Grange ISD’s bond construction projects are being finalized.

When students return to school Jan. 6 after the Christmas break, the new elementary offices, library, special education center and nurses offices are expect to be in use, said La Grange superintendent Bill Wagner. That will (mostly) put the punctuation mark on a three-and-a-half year project at the school, that dates back to when the $37.9 million bond package was passed by voters in May of 2017.

The excitement of the construction completion comes amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic. But LGISD has made it through the first half of the school year, and the doors are still open.

“I could not be more pleased with the cooperation of faculty, parents and students during the most challenging period of time in public education in the last 100 years. There’s no other way to describe it,” Wagner said. “Hopefully next semester we’ll see a light at the end of the tunnel. The teachers have been resourceful and have been doing what it takes to serve kids.”

• On Monday at a special meeting, the LGISD school board approved the purchase of 128 laptops at a cost of $140,672. Some $105,504 of that cost will be reimbursed to the district through participation in the Coronavirus Relief Fund Operation Connectivity Reimbursement Program.
