Winchester Area Civic Association Hosting Halloween Trunk-N-Treat
The Winchester Area Civic Association is sponsoring a Trunk-n-Treat from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, for the children of the Winchester area. Cars will be parked in the driveway of Zilss Hall, and children may walk or be driven through the drive so they can Trick or Treat. All COVID-19 protocols will be adhered to, with candy in plastic bags as well as face mask and social distancing being observed. Hope to see you there.
BBQ Pork Steak Dinner
Saint Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester is having a drive-thru BBQ pork steak dinner with all the trimmings on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Saint Michael’s Park (310 Frio Street). Advance meal tickets will be sold for $10 and guaranteed until 12 p.m. The deadline to purchase advance tickets is Thursday, Oct. 15. Octoberfest
The Faith Lutheran High School will be hosting an event on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Picnic grounds in Warda. Pre-orders are required. Plates will include brats, noodles, green beans, warm potato salad, kraut and bread. Tickets are $12 and can be ordered by calling (979) 242-2889 or emailing kueckn@faithlutheranhighschool. com.
Barn Board Quilt Class
There are still several spaces available for the Quilt Block class scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Zilss Hall in Winchester. If you are interested, please register at www.quiltblocktrail.com, The class provides all supplies and registration is $50 per per son. The class will adhere to all requirements of COVID-19. Round Table Book Club
The book club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. The October book to be discussed is “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. The books for the remainder of the calendar year are “Keeper of Lost Things” by Ruth Hogan for November and “American Dirt” by Jeanine Cummins for December.
Nov. 3rd Voting Site
Winchester Precinct 11 will vote on Nov. 3 at the St. Michael’s Church Education Building. Voting polls will be open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Since this is a General Election, all parties will vote at the same place.
Barn Board Quilt Trail
The quilt block trail in Winchester can now be seen at www. quiltblocktrail.com. Schedules of classes, class registration forms, pictures and the trail map are just some of the items available for viewing. A comment section is being developed. Quilt Trail maps can be found at Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville and La Grange. The trail is self-drive, is available at your convenience and is a great way to spend an afternoon during this COVID-19 social distancing time. You will find the blocks on fences, gates, barns and houses that can be seen from the road.
Recycling Trailer
The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the Memorial Hall Street side of Zilss Hall. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow out.
Zilss Community Hall
Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.
The Little Free Library
The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event you would like advertised, please post.

St. Michael’s Lutheran Church
Continuing for all future worship services unless notified otherwise, St. Michael’s will be changing the format of their worship services as they continue to adapt to COVID-19.
The new worship format will allow those who are comfortable returning to worship service in the sanctuary to do so while still making accommodations for those who would prefer to participate from their vehicles in the parking lot. Pastor Nate will conduct the worship service from the sanctuary.

FUMC
The Winchester First United Methodist Church will return to service inside the sanctuary. Pease wear a mask and social distance inside the church. The Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.
