TCHCC Unveils New Polka Exhibit

Retta Chandler, president of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange, shows off a new exhibit at the Center’s museum, which features artifacts from the Catholic Czech Club of Dallas. The collection includes photographs of a great many polka bands that were active during the Club’s heyday in the 1960s and 70s. The photo on the display pictured above is of Snapka’s Polka Band. Chandler is holding a cookbook that the Club published, which includes not only authentic Czech recipes, but also a wealth of folklore and history about Czech immigration to Texas. TCHCC has some of these cookbooks for sale in their gift store. Look for more about this exhibit in the next issue of the Texas Polka News at the end of this month.
