SISD Sees First COVID Cases

Schulenburg ISD has had two students test positive for COVID-19 in the last few days, the first such positives since the school year began.

Duane Limbaugh, superintendent for Schulenburg ISD, said one student who tested positive was already quarantining at home following a positive test by their parent so that student was not believed to have exposed anyone on campus.

Additionally, a Schulenburg High School student who was last on campus Friday tested positive Saturday. The school began contact tracing procedures over the weekend and about 10 students who were deemed to have had close contact with the positive student are now doing remote learning from home for the next 14 days as a precaution.

Limbaugh said some Schulenburg football players were included in that group that needed to quarantine. The absence of those players along with a number of injuries have thinned the Shorthorns roster enough that Limbaugh said head football coach Walt Brock would make a determination Friday if the Shorthorns would have enough players to play their football game next Friday, Oct. 23, against Shiner St. Paul. The Shorthorns had a pre-scheduled off week this Friday.
