Retired Teachers Association Welcomes New Members, Plans Christmas Market

The Fayette County Retired Teachers (FCRTA) had their first meeting of the 20262027 year on Monday, Sept. 14, at the New Life Methodist Church meeting room in La Grange. Twenty-seven members and one guest were present. The meeting began with an Ice Cream Social and a time of fellowship.

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Halamicek, President, and the pledges to the American and Texas flags were led by Lisa Slinkard, First Vice-President. The business portion of the meeting began with approval of the June 8, minutes and the Treasurer’s report given by Chris Morrison. Peggy Halamicek presented Texas Retired Teacher’s Association’s (TRTA) upcoming Legislative priorities: to restore Teachers Retirement System (TRS) to actuarial soundness, to deliver a meaningful Benefit enhancement and fund TRS-Care. The new members were welcomed with gift bags and an FCRTA T-shirt at this meeting.

On Nov. 6 and 7 the FCRTA will host a Christmas Country Market featuring beautiful Christmas Foral designs by Teresa Szostak, as well as Christmas décor, quality crafts, handmade items and unique Christmas gifts. Proceeds will be donated to the Texas Retired Teacher’s Foundation. This Foundation provides grants to First-year and Current teachers and gives donations to teachers who have experienced disasters. The Food and Refreshments available for purchase will be supplied by The Market in Flatonia.
