Renter Refuses to Leave

A La Grange man refused to leave the room he was renting after the homeowner kicked him out, so police took him to jail instead.

According to a report from La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, a resident called police just before 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, reporting an intoxicated subject who refused to leave his house. Gilbreath said the man was renting the room to the subject for $40 a night but recently told him to leave.

Sgt. Justin Koehne and Officer John Wostarek responded to the house, located in the 500 block of East Guadalupe Street. The officers met with 46-yearold Jerome Ellis of La Grange, who was refusing to leave the complainant’s residence. Gilbreath said Koehne discovered a “useable amount of marijuana” in Ellis’s possession.

The officers arrested Ellis for possession of marijuana and transported him to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center in La Grange.
