Red & White Reopens with William Anzalone Legacy Pastel Figure Drawings
After being closed since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, the Red & White Gallery is reopening on Saturdays for the foreseeable future from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. The gallery will not hold formal openings until it becomes safer, so the public can now view shows in a less crowded environment.
The first exhibit is a collection of pastel drawings by Round Top artist William Anzalone. Anzalone has been a fixture in the Texas art scene since his early one-man shows at the Houston gallery Meredith Long & Company, where he exhibited for 60 years. Although known recently for his landscapes, in the 1970s and 1980s Anzalone’s work centered around the figure as he explored his own art form while teaching his students at the University of Houston.
The figurative work now in the gallery is from Anzalone’s legacy portfolio, and is being offered for the first time anywhere. The Red & White is very proud to be able to offer these hidden jewels to the public, along with a larger collection of his recent landscape paintings and drawings.
Pat Johnson, Mary Quiros featured on new Red & White online gallery
The Red & White has also opened an online gallery at RedandWhiteGalleryOnline.com. The first major show on our online gallery features Fayetteville artist Pat Johnson’s current solo show at the Galveston Arts Center on Galveston Island. Her show “Nervous Waters” was selected by GAC Curator Dennis Nance. The show in Galveston will be on display through November 15, 2020, at which point the work will come to the Red & White. The entire show, plus some of Johnson’s other current work can be viewed and pur chased online now.
Pat Johnson’s career as a ceramic sculptor spans over 40 years. She has been exhibited by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, San Angelo Museum of Art, the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum in Arizona, the Arkansas Art Center, as well as being featured in numerous publications.
The ever-popular work of Mary Quiros is also featured online by the Red & White, as well as being viewable at the Gallery in Fayetteville and the Moravian Room Gallery at the Grand Fayette Hotel. Quiros’ vibrant watercolors and large, dynamic acrylic paintings are widely collected from Fayetteville, to Houston to her native city of Laredo, Texas. Quiros has been exhibited in Dallas, San Antonio, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Niigata, Japan, and New York City, among others. She is the past-president and current board member of the Texas Watercolor Society.
Laura Wilson photographs coming to the Red & White directly from the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth
Photographer Laura Wilson was recently inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Ft. Worth, with the associated National Cowgirl Museum holding an exhibit of her work. The show “Laura Wilson: Looking West”, held over due to the pandemic, is now being transported to Fayetteville where it will be featured in our Gallery as well as being offered online.
“Laura Wilson has looked West for most of her life,” states the Cowgirl Museum. “Her photographic career is firmly planted in this region of America. Her concerns are with the contemporary currents and time-honored traditions of the West. From the Hutterites of Montana to the cowboys of West Texas, from rodeo trick riders to mountain lion hunters and road signs, this collection offers a glimpse into Wilson’s photographic vision.”
Red Wall Portraits available for pick up
Due to the Gallery’s extended closure, many prints from the exhibit “Red Wall Portraits” are still available to be claimed at the gallery. Many people made a donation to the Fayetteville Community Center & Performance Theater project and their prints and donation letter are ready for pick up, as are the prints of anyone that was featured in the Red & White exhibit. Prints can be picked up on Saturday’s from 10 a.m. til 4 p.m. Masks are required for the safety of our staff.
