AMEN Support

The City of La Grange’s Office of Community Development & Tourism is helping to raise much needed funds for the AMEN Food Pantry. 100% of the proceeds from the official La Grange Christmas t-shirts will benefit AMEN. T-shirts can be purchased for $30 in-person at the Historic Casino Hall or orders can be placed over the phone by calling (979) 968-3017. Over the past few weeks, the AMEN Food Pantry has seen an increase in La Grange families in need of food basics and these much needed funds will help to ensure the food bank will be able to provide meal staples during the holiday season.

KC Gumbo

The Fayetteville/Ellinger KC’s will serve a chicken and sausage gumbo on Friday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. drivethrough only with pick-up near the barbecue pits. Cost is $10 for one serving of gumbo and one rice. Call in your orders early to (832) 260-3631.

Second Saturday

Order food from local restaurants and enjoy music, GaGa pit, shopping, popcorn, and cotton candy on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. on the square in La Grange. Depot Museum

The La Grange Railroad Depot Museum will be open in November and December — Nov. 14 and 21, and Dec. 5 and 12 - from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors inside the Depot Museum must wear face masks. You are invited to come and refresh your memories of the many interesting exhibits or see them for the first time. We won’t have a passenger train come through, like we did recently, but there may well be some train traffic. Come see.

Veterans Breakfast In Shelby

The American Legion Post 602 Shelby invites all veterans and the public to the drive-thru annual veterans breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 14 beginning at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. for bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy. A free will donation is appreciated. It will be held at 4019 FM 1457 in at the Post

Essay Contest Extended

The Patriots Pen Essay Contest and the Voice of Democracy Voice/Essay Scholarship Contests sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and VFW Auxiliary are excellent opportunities for school aged children in grades 6-12 to get the jumpstart on funding their college education. The VFW and VFW Auxiliary have extended the deadlines for each of the contests in view of the current challenges and circumstances due to the later start of schools because of the pandemic. The original due date (October 31st) has been extended to Nov. 15 Please send all entries to the local VFW Auxiliary by Nov.15 to: Barbara Brauner, 804 N. FWSC Board Meeting

Thanksgiving Barbecue Turkeys

La Grange Knights of Columbus Council No. 2574 will be taking pre-orders for barbecue turkeys for Thanksgiving. The turkeys are 14-16 lbs. and cost $45. If possible, please reserve your order before Nov. 18 by calling (979) 968-5117. Pick up is Wednesday, Nov. 25 between 4 to 6 p.m.

Barbeue Pork Steak Supper

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962, is having a drive through supper on Thusday, Nov. 19 fom 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the KC Community Center located at 190 S. Brown Street. The meal will consist of pork steak, buttered noodles, California blend veggies and corn. Tickets are $10. RT Hermann Sons Life Lodge

The Round Top Hermann Sons Life Lodge 151 will hold a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19. The meeting will be held at the Quade-Werchan American Legion Hall at Round Top. Casino Hall Christmas Open House

Join the Historic Casino Hall located at 254 N. Jefferson St in La Grange for a Christmas Open House on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be plenty of festive pre-packaged cookies from Keri’s Kookies for everyone to sample along with holiday photo opportunities by the beloved Christmas tree in the foyer. Social distancing practices along with plenty of hand sanitizer will be available.

Happy Playing & Art In The Park

Go to your favorite park in La Grange and sketch, draw, paint, snap a picture and or make a collage. Explain where you are, who is with you, what day and date you are visiting, and what is special to you about this park. Put information on the back of the artwork (max 11”x13") with your name, age, and contact information. Bring your artwork to the Randolph Recreation Center by Nov. 20 to be displayed and for a chance to win a gift card. This begins Oct 30 through Nov. 20 and is open to all ages. Christmas Craft Show

The Christmas Craft Show at La Grange First United Methodist Church scheduled for Nov. 21 has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Show Fund Pork Steak Dinner

The Fayetteville Show Fund is having a to go only meal on Sunday, Nov. 22 from 11 a.m until 12:30 p.m. at the St John’s Catholic Church Pavilion in Fayetteville. The meal consists of barbecue pork steak, buttered potatoes and green beans. Pre-Sale tickets are $10 per plate and available through Monday, Nov. 16. Barbecue Chicken To Go In Warda

The Holy Cross Couple’s Club will have BBQ chickens to-go on Sunday, Nov. 22. Pick up is from 10 a.m.-noon at the Holy Cross picnic grounds in Warda. Chickens are $9 each and 16 oz. cups of sauce are $2. Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Due to increased state, county, and local nursing home cases of COVID-19, the Schulenburg Ministerial Alliance has with sad hearts cancelled the community Thanksgiving service planned to be held at First Baptist Church on Nov. 22. If you would like to give to the work of the Alliance for transients through our community, please give through your local church and your pastor and/or treasurer can forward the offering to us.

Community Thanksgiving Service

The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held this year at The Remnant Church, 2010 Von Minden in La Grange, at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, Nov. 22. This service is for promoting unity among the churches in the community and reminding everyone to be thankful for all of God’s blessings. This event benefits AMEN Food Pantry. Everyone who attends is asked to bring a canned good for the pantry. It also benefits the Good Shepherd Fund, which provides help for transients going through our town (a night’s stay in a motel, a gift card to HEB for gas or food); an offering is taken during the service for this fund. Everyone will be asked to wear a mask until they get to their seat and then the mask will be optional; everyone will be asked to put their mask back on as they exit the building. Ushers will seat folks using social distancing protocol. Ushers will help with exiting after the service. The service will be livestreamed on The Remnant Church Facebook page, and the other churches involved will share the service.

RT Lions’s Club Turkey Trot

Sign up for a 10k, 5k or a one mile fun run to burn those calories before eating Thanksgiving dinner. The Round Top Lion’s annual Turkey Trop begins Thursday, Nov. 26 at 8 a.m. at Henkel Square Market in Round Top. The 10k starts at 8 a.m. and one mile fun run at 8:15 with 5k at 8:30. Register online at wwwathleteguilcicom. There will be no race day registration. This supports youth organizations in Round Top and surrounding communities.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner provided by La Grange First United Methodist Church will be Thursday, Nov. 26 beginning at 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall at 1215 N. Christmas Tree Contest

Fayetteville’s second annual Christmas tree decorating contest is about to begin. Fayetteville residents are encouraged to participate and show off their decorating talent. Hospice Christmas Arts & Crafts Show

Hospice Brazos Valley is hosting a Christmas Arts and Crafts Show inside at the Historic Casino Hall on Dec. 5 from 10 a.m.until 4 p.m. Setup time is from 8-10 a.m. If you are an artist/crafter and are interested in a booth for the show, contact Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. There may be some changes to the setup to accommodate any COVID-19 rules at the time, but Christmas is coming so the show must go on.

Habitat T-Shirt Fundraiser

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity is having a t-shirt fundraiser to help support its mission of providing affordable housing solutions across Fayette County. Shirts can be pre-purchased online through the La Grange Visitors Bureau or over the phone at (979) 968-3017. Shirts are $20 and are available up to 3x. Shirts come in black or blue and feature an original Habitat floor plan as part of its design.
