Food Drive
Potts Law Firm is sponsoring a Fayette County Food Drive. Let’s join hands, spread kindness, and make a difference in our community. Every donation counts, and every little bit helps. The food drive will be held Oct. 1-Nov. 5. Stop by, drop off a donation, and say hello Monday-Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at 427 W. Travis St. in La Grange. Pink Out Saturday
Join for a community walk, memory wall and luminary tribute on Saturday, Oct. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. The community walk will begin at the La Grange High School Library to the Fayette Public Library, 855 S. Jefferson. The program begins at 10 a.m. this event is dedicated to the memory of Beth McKenzie. Luminaries are available for purchase to honor and remember loved ones. BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ and the Episcopal Women a bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This BBQ is for the benefit of the Holy Smokers Christmas charity donations.
Nominations for Gifted and Talented
Nominations for La Grange ISD kindergarten students to participate in the gifted and talented screening process are open through Monday, Nov. 16. Parents and community members who would like to nominate a kindergarten student should complete the Parent/Community Nomination Form and return it to the child’s school office by that date. The form is available under “Forms and Documents” on the district’s Gifted and Talented webpage.
Rosary Rally at Gazebo
The Fatima Rosary Rally is Saturday Oct. 10 at the rose garden gazebo just off the square in La Grange at noon. All are invited to attend. Prayers for world peace and against violence.
Roast Beef & Sausage Meal
St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinger will have a roast beef and sausage meal to go only on Sunday Oct. 11 for $15 a plate.

Swiss Alp Dance Club
The Swiss Alp Dance Club is holding their October dance on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 2-5:30 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall (formerly KC Hall) located at 405 West Street. The live music band will be Blue Denim. Doors open at 1 p.m. All are invited. $10 admission fee for guests. The hall sells beer, sodas and ice. You are welcome to bring your own bottle of choice and snacks.
Knights of Columbus Barbecue
The Fayetteville Knights of Columbus monthly BBQ is Sunday, Oct. 11. Whole chickens are $12, sausage links are $6 and a slab of ribs is $20. Orders may be placed by calling (979) 2496003. Advance orders are appreciated. Orders may be picked up at the pits behind the Church Center from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon.
American Legion Post & Auxiliary Meeting
The American Legion Post 102 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will hold their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home on Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. A catered hamburger meal with sides will be served, followed by the regular business meetings. The Auxiliaty will discuss plans for the annual Poppy Distribution for Veterans Day, and 2027 membership dues may be paid at the meeting. Interested in becoming a member? New and prospective members are always welcome. American Legion membership requires qualifying military service. Auxiliary membership is available to eligible female relatives of veterans who served during qualifying periods, as well as women who qualify through their own military service. Annual dues are required. Not sure if you qualify? Come visit with us. We will be happy to answer your questions and help you leam more about membership and how you can support our veterans and community. La Grange Community Blood Drive
A La Grange Community Blood Drive will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m - 3 p.m. at 190 S. Brown St. in La Grange inside of KC Hall. Bring your photo ID and eat a full meal before arriving. The Democratic Party Neighbors Gathering will be Thursday, Oct. 15 from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. at the new location of Alejandra’s Mexican Grill, 110 E. Travis St., La Grange (the former PharmHouse Drug site). Whether you’re new to the area or a longtime resident, the monthly Democratic luncheon is a great opportunity to meet fellow Democrats, and stay informed as we head toward the Nov. 3 election. Bring a friend, bring a neighbor, and bring your voice, we’d love to have you with us.
Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.
Genealogy Workshop at Library
The Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives is offering a free workshop that includes eight streamed genealogy programs on Friday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. You may attend one or all of the sessions which will take place in the meeting room of the Fayette Public Library at 855 S. Bishop Forest Class of 1963
The Bishop Forest Class of 1963 will hold a get-together on Oct. 16, at Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant in Schulenburg. Rock The Block
The Weimar Area Chamber of Commerce will host Rock the Block on Friday, Oct. 16, from 6-11 p.m. in downtown Weimar. The community is invited to enjoy an evening of live music by The Fender Bender Band, food and drinks, local vendors, shopping and more. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Williams Creek Cemetery Assoc.
Williams Creek Cemetery Association will hold it’s annual workday on Saturday, Oct. 17 starting at 8 a.m. There are several leaning, sunken, and damaged headstones that need to be fixed. We hope to see you there.
Harvest Festival and Homecoming The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Harvest Festival and Homecoming will be held Sunday, Oct. 18 with Worship at 9:30 a.m. at Martin Lutheran Church in Carmine with worship music. The meal is pork ribeye and sausage, potatoes and green beans. Meal will be served from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $15. Dine in or plates to-go available, no drive-thru. Raffle tickets: 1 for $20 or 3 for $50. Tickets available at the church office and Carmine State Bank. Confirmation homecoming for classes ending in I and 6. There will be pumpkin carving and activities for the children.
Bach to Buster Organ Concert
St. Paul Lutheran Church, located at 110 W. Walnut St. in La Grange will host guest organist Daniel Fenn on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. A free will offering will be taken.
Turtle Wing Foundation Monster Dash The Turtle Wing Foundation will host its 14th Annual Monster Dash on Sunday, Oct. 18, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Jack & Mary’s, 610 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. The family-friendly Halloween event will feature the annual Monster Dash, where participants can race to the finish line, along with the Jack Hooper Costume Contest, an On Pointe performance, and “Boo Around the Block,” offering treats, tricks and opportunities to connect with local organizations. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes and enjoy an evening of fun while supporting the Turtle Wing Foundation and its mission of helping individuals with learning challenges in rural communities. Fall Clean Up Days
The City of La Grange will have Fall Clean-Up Days in October. Residents are allowed one free load of brush (no larger than 8 ft. long, 4 ft. wide, and 4 ft. tall equal to one pickup truck load). Any additional loads will be charged on your next bill. Do not place brush over water meter boxes or near utility poles. Separate logs from branches. No trash bags of brush and do not mix brush with bulk items. Brush piles must not contain trash, leaves, lumber, or construction debris. Bagged leaves are not included in the free pickup. Residents must call City Hall to schedule leaf pickup for a fee. Schedule is as follows: Oct. 19 and 20 - south side of the city (Travis St. - Hwy. 71 Bus.; Oct. 21 and 22 - north side of the city; Oct. 23 - Cedar Creek and Riverside. Fayette County Gun Club (FCGC) is hosting a hunter education class at the club’s facility Sunday, Oct. 25 located at 5338 North US Hwy. 77, La Grange. This session consists of classroom instruction, field skills and a live fire exercise. The facility will be open at 8 a.m. with the class beginning promptly at 8:30. Lunch will be provided by FCGC with snacks and drinks available during the training. Course fee, set by TPWD, is $15, payable at check-in time, cash only. All course materials are provided, students need only bring a willingness to engage in the learning experience. While attendance and a passing test score is necessary to pass this course,active participation is required. Native Plant Society Plant Sale
The Live Oak Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas, which serves the counties of Fayette, Lavaca, and Colorado, will be hosting a two day native plant sale event on Oct. 30 and 31.
The event will be hosted at the B Haus Nursery in Schulenburg from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. both days. This will be a great opportunity for anyone interested to purchase native trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials, and mulch that are native to our central Texas region. Native plants are a beneficial addition to any property with their ability to attract pollinators and survive in our often harsh conditions. Too Many Ghosts
Join the Fayette County Community Theatre on Oct. 30, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 as they present Too Many Ghosts by Todd Wallinger. This play follows a mother and her child who inherit an old house or inn in Salem, Mass., and try to turn it into a bed and breakfast, only to find it occupied by a group of mischievous ghosts. International Quilt Festival In Houston
The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild is sponsoring a bus trip to the Houston International Quilt Festival on Saturday, Nov. 14. The large and luxurious bus will leave from the La Grange Walmart parking lot at 8 a.m. with a pick-up stop at the Columbus Walmart parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and on the way to Houston for a day of fun and quilts. Grief Group Being Offered
Hospice Brazos Valley is offering a new grief group for anyone who is grieving. This can be for any human grief, i.e. parent, grandparent, sibling, best friend, and the ones that HBV already offers, spouse, child. This support group will meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange.
