Parkinson’s Group
Anyone struggling with the Parkinson’s movement disorder is invited to attend the reactivated support group in La Grange the third Thursday of every month. This support group is for patients and caregivers. The meetings begin at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church parlor located at 121 S. College Street near Tejas Clinic. Public Rosary
America Needs Fatima Public Rosary Crusade will be held on the courthouse square in Fayetteville on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 12 noon. It is one of 20,000 rallies that will be held on that day. Social distancing will be required.
Peter Jurk Reunion
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Peter Jurk Reunion will be cancelled for this year in order to keep family members safe. The reunion will be rescheduled for next year on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021 at the Warda Picnic Grounds.
St. James BBQ
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken will be $3.50 and sausage link $5, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Arts For Rural Texas. The Holy Smokers will be observing COVID-19 protocols.
Republican Party Expanded Hours
The Fayette County Republican Party has expanded open hours at their 2020 Republican Campaign Headquarters. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 29, hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Their headquarters are located at 145 W. Travis, in the Littrell Insurance Group office suites, between Flair & Company and Hengst Printing a half block off the square in downtown La Grange. Public Square Rosary Rally for America
All are invited to join in a Public Square Rosary Rally for America on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Fayette County Courthouse square. Leading the Rosary will be Deacon Mike Meismer and members of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas No. 1962 from La Grange and Plum.
Second Saturday on the Square
Come join other local creators, makers, families, and community members on the square in La Grange Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 4 p.m. Order takeout from a local downtown business and set up a blanket or do some early Christmas shopping from local businesses and artisans. Habitat For Humanity Yard Sale
Fayette County Habitat for Humanity will be having a yard sale fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 805 Mode Ln. (old AMEN building). Masks required, no children under 16.
Public Square Rosary Rally
Hostyn Catholic Daughters, Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282, will host a Fatima Rosary Service in La Grange at the Quilt Museum gazebo on the square on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11:45 a.m. with the service beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend, keeping in mind the current safety protocols.
Turkey & Dressing Fundraiser Flatonia
Flatonia Catholic Daughters No. 2570 will be having a plates to go turkey and dressing fundraiser dinner on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Cost is $11 per plate. Limit is 1,000 plates. First come, first serve. The meal is catered by Koopman Catering of Schulenburg. Contact any Flatonia CDA Court No. 2570 member with questions.
Fayetteville Knights of Columbus BBQ
The Fayetteville Knights of Columbus Council 3168 will return to having their monthly barbecue this Sunday, Oct. 11 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church pavilion. Barbecue sausage, chicken and ribs will be available. Walk up and curb side will be available with social distancing being used and everyone wearing masks. Chicken Fry Fundraiser
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top is holding its 62nd annual Chicken Fry on Sunday, Oct. 11. A meal of fried chicken, noodles, and green beans will be offered from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. All meals will be packaged in to-go containers and delivered at a drive-through held at the Round Top Rifle Hall. A sweets table, with individually packages goodies, will also be available. The $10 meal tickets must be pre-purchased. Tickets are available at Round Top Mercantile Co. and Round Top State Bank. The church is also holding a fundraising raffle with exciting prizes. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the same locales. American Legion, Auxiliary Unit 102
The American Legion Post 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 102 will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Members are invited to attend and take care of some business matters that need to be addressed. Face masks and social distancing required.
LG Little League Open Meeting
La Grange Little League will be holding its annual open meeting to elect board members on Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. in the meeting room at Frisch Auf! Country Club located at 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. LG Little League is looking to fill at least four open positions.
Carmine Night Out
Carmine Night Out, sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce and the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department, will be held Thursday evening, Oct. 15 starting at 6 p.m. The program at the Carmine VFD will include a flag retirement ceremony, talks from local dignitaries, door prizes, free food and drinks, and a children’s activity table. Little Dribblers Registration
Little Dribblers registration is now open. The La Grange Optimist Club has opened registration up for the Little Dribblers basketball season. Little Dribblers is open to boys and girls starting at age 4 years old through 6th grade. Deadline for 4 years through 2nd grade is Oct. 15. Deadline for 3rd through 6th grade is Dec. 15. LG VFD Requesting Bake Goods
The La Grange Volunteer Fire Department is requesting baked goods for the drive thru bake sale with free will donations. The 35th annual fundraiser fish fry is Sunday, Oct. 18 at the K.C. Hall in La Grange. Anyone willing to donate any baked goods may contact any La Grange fireman for pick up or drop off Sunday morning at the KC Hall.
Fall Clean Up Week
The City of La Grange has designated Oct. 19-23 as Fall Cleanup Week. The City will pick up one free load of brush during this week. One load of brush is defined as not more than one pickup truck load. If you have logs, separate them from the branches. Also, make sure there is no trash mixed in with the brush. The following schedule will be observed: Oct. 19-20, South Side of the City (Travis St. - Hwy. 71 Bus.); Oct. 21-22, North Side of the City. FCJLS Steer Tag In
Any 4-H or FFA member in Fayette County who plan on showing steers at the Fayette County Jr. Livestock Show must tag in their steers on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Fayette Co. Vet Clinic between 4-6 p.m. Any steers that were validated for the major shows and possibly plan on showing at the Fayette County Jr. Livestock Show do not have to be present for tag in; however, they must turn in an entry card by Oct. 20. FCJLS Lamb and Goat Tag In

Winedale’s Online Programs
Tuesday, Oct. 20 at noon, Bryan McAuley, site manager at San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, will share a quick overview of the San Felipe project which culminated in the opening of a new visitor center in the spring of 2018. The site shares the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his efforts to recruit settlers to Mexican Texas between 1821 and 1836 and is located at the site of his Colony headquarters. Of note, the program will discuss a current outdoor exhibit project that will result in some representative buildings from one of the most significant blocks from the business district of the town. Fayetteville Harvest Carnival
The Fayetteville PTC Harvest Carnival is cancelled this year, but a raffle and drive thru chili and beef stew meal will take place. Raffle tickets are one for $10. You can purchase them from FISD students. The drive thru chili and beef stew meal will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 at the St. John’s Catholic Church Hall in Fayetteville from 4:30 to 7 p.m. No presale tickets. The chili and beef stew will be sold in quart containers for $10 each.
Halloween Trunk or Treat
The First Baptist Church in La Grange will hold a drive-thru Trunk or Treat Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. First Baptist Church is located at 5000 W. State Hwy. 71 in La Grange.
Tree Trimmers In Fayetteville
A message to all citizens of Fayetteville who live along State Highway 159, 1291 and 955. In the next few weeks TxDOT will be trimming the trees along these routes. There have been problems with low hanging branches in the roadway. The minimum legal height is 14 feet 7 inches. To avoid difficulties the City has posted this notice to please watch for the trimmers when driving.
