Chamber Mixer

The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce September Mixer will be hosted by Tune Up The Manly Salon at 2001 State Hwy. 71, Suite C in La Grange on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to connect with other chamber members and the community. Democratic Party

The Democratic Party neighbors gathering will be held Thursday, Sept. 17 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Edna’s Kitchenette, 115 E. North Main, Flatonia. Singing Men

On Thursday, Sept. 17, the Singing Men of South Texas will present a free concert at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Schulenburg. The group of around 40 men, plus a small orchestra, is made up of pastors, worship leaders, and musicians from various churches in the South Texas area. It will be an evening to remember. Republican Headquarters

Fayette County Republicans will be opening their 2026 campaign headquarters on Thursday, Sept. 10. The headquarters are located at 258 S. Washington, two blocks south of the downtown square in La Grange, at the corner of Milam Street. It will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. through Oct. 31. Yard signs for all the major Republican candidates are available.

Tax Assessor Collector Office Schedule

The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collector Office Deptartment of Motor Vehicles will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 16 for a regional meeting and training and will resume normal business hours on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Registration is also available at substations: Farmers Insurance, 501 Summit in Schulenburg (979) 743-2120; NAPA Store, 515 N. 4-H Fun Night

Fayette County 4-H presents 4-H Fun Night, the nation’s largest youth development and empowerment organization, cultivates confident kids who tackle the issues that matter most in their communities right now. In the United States, 4-H programs empower six million young people through the 110 land-grant universities and Cooperative Extension in more than 3,000 local offices serving every county and parish in the country. This event will take place Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds from 4-6 p.m. Come and learn all what 4-H has to offer and enjoy snow cones and prizes. Republican Women Meeting

The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Check-in begins at 10:30. Lunch is available for $20. Program speaker will be Mr. Ben Crockett. Crockett is a policy scholar with the Texas Public Policy Foundation and participates on the Government Reform and Oversight Coalition. Crockett will be speaking to FCRW on Tax Payer Funded lobbying. Bells Across America

The Smith-McMillan Daughters of the American Revolution invite everyone to join in the celebration of Bells Across America on Thursday, Sept. 17. The ceremony will begin at 2:45 p.m. on the Fayette County Courthouse lawn. The Honorable Dan Mueller will read the Constitution Week Proclamation, DAR members will share afew interesting facts about the Constitution, everyone will recite the Preamble of the Constitution, and then at 3 p.m. we will proudly ring our bells for one minute. Bring your bells or use one of ours and feel free to wear red, white and blue. We would also invite all area churches to ring their bell at 3 p.m

Cummins Creek Wildlife Management The Cummins Creek Wildlife Management fall meeting and dinner will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. at (new location) Harmonie Hall, 302 FM 1296 in Shelby. Pork steak dinner will be served fro $10 per plate, as well as refreshments, a raffle and door prizes and a chance to win a 600 lb. ground feeder. Silent auction will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Please bring items to help support the organization. Everyone is invited.

Buckner’s Creek Wildlife Management Buckner’s Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Seminar will be Sept. 19. Doors open at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church Hall, Plum Church Road in Plum. Registration, meeting, presentation, prizes and meal to follow.

Texas Heroes Day Event with Pat Lyons A special event will be held at the Texas Heroes Museum on Saturday, Sept. 19 to celebrate Texas Heroes Day. Guest speaker will be Pat Lyons, a Vietnam veteran who was a Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP, pronounced “lurp”). LRRPs were well armed patrols who gathered intelligence information deep in enemy territory. Pat will speak upstairs in the Sheriff’s bedroom at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m. This special event is open to the general public, and as always, the museum is free to visit. To attend special events, there is a fee of $5 per person or $4 for seniors, students, and veterans. Members of the Texas Heroes Museum attend special events such as this for free. The 2026 Texas Heroes Day marks the 10th anniversary of the day that Judge Ed Janecka officiated at the dedication of the Fayette County Old Jail as the Texas Heroes Museum.

The Round Top-Shelby Hermann Sons Life Lodge will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall at 710 FM 1457, Round Top. A social time will begin at 6 p.m. a meeting at 6:30 with a meal following. The Lodge will provide a spaghetti dinner for the meal and members are invited to bring sides or desserts to share. Please note the new meeting date going forward is the fourth Tuesday of the month with the exception of the month of December, when we will continue to meet on the second Sunday of December for the annual Christmas party. La Grange Chamber Lunch & Learn

Join Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. for a Lunch & Learn hosted by the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Extension Program. Dr. Shanta Harrison, Extension Program Specialist for Housing at PVAMU, will walk attendees through two USDA programs that can open the door to affordable homeownership and help current homeowners keep their homes safe. USDA Section 502 Single Family Housing Direct Loan helps low and moderate-income households buy, build, or refinance a home in eligible rural areas, often with no down payment required. USDA Section 504 Home Repair Loan and Grant helps existing low-income homeowners repair, modernize, or remove health and safety hazards from their homes. Grants (which don’t have to be repaid) are available to homeowners age 62 and older. Dr. Harrison’s team will also provide on-site application assistance, so attendees can get started the same day. This Lunch & Learn will take place at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, 250 W. Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange. The cost is free for La Grange Chamber members and non-members.
