Preteens Who Rode Horses On Baseball Field Identified

La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said his department identified the youths responsible for riding horses on one of the baseball fields at White Rock Park last week.

In a report to the City Council Monday night, Dec. 14, Gilbreath said the children were aged 10 to 12 years old. In addition, he said there were three horses involved, not two as initially thought.

He said the youths admitted to riding their horses along the baselines of a field that recently underwent $30,000 in renovations. The renovations required heavy watering and no activities on the field for 40 days straight. The youths’ horse ride deeply rutted the infield dirt.

“It looked like a pack of hogs went through there,” said City Manager Shawn Raborn.

Council members Ken Taylor and Violet Zbranek said at the meeting that the youths or their parents should provide restitution.

Gilbreath said he believes the youths knew what they were doing was wrong but did not understand the amount of damage they were causing. Gilbreath said the matter has been referred to the Fayette County Juvenile Probation Department.
