NVCC Center to Re-Open Monday
Out of an abundance of caution, NVCC has decided to be prudent and close the center for the two weeks in response to the rise in area COVID cases. NVCC has noticed the return of cautious protocols being encouraged at all levels, such as mask wearing, frequent handwashing, and social distancing. With the Thanksgiving holiday upon us, with family’s home from work, and with student’s home from school, and that there will be a lot of moving around in town, NVCC felt the need to decrease the exposure staff and members may experience.
Each member with frequent attendance in September, October and November was personally called by NVCC Center staff to check in with them, to deliver the message, and to determine if they had a need for warm meals during this time. They were so grateful for the call and that NVCC saved them a trip into town. Members know to call Cindy Villarreal at (979) 309-9592 should a need arise.
NVCC was closed Nov. 23 through Dec. 4. NVCC will open Monday, Dec. 7. Menu for Dec. 7 includes beefy mac and cheese, buttered corn, salad, roll and dessert; Dec. 9, fried chicken, potatoes, veggie of the day, salad, bread and dessert; Dec. 14, chicken vegetable soup, cornbread, salad and dessert; Dec. 16, turkey and dressing with gravy, veggie, salad, roll and dessert.
The Lunch & Learn topics on Mondays will include: Winter Home Fire Prevention, Open Enrollment Time, Garden & Outdoor Safety, Diabetes Awareness, Situational Awareness, COVID vaccine information, etc.
This past week, the NVCC center was given an “extradeep” level cleaning and sanitizing to receive members and guests back with open arms, eye-grins over masks and virtual hugs. All tables and chairs have been wiped and sanitized, as well as all game pieces, parts, and loose ends. All bingo game prizes and tables were wiped down and re-stocked, too. NVCC appreciates the AgriLife Extension Office in La Grange who provided a replenished supply of hand sanitizer for the center. All it cost was the trip and it was well worth it.
With the center closed, NVCC is conducting internal audits of all files, refining written processes, and inventorying stock and supplies. Please know that NVCC welcomes new volunteers to help with center setup and clean-up on the days NVCC is open, with attendance numbers tabulation and filing, and with social media exposure too. High school clubs, Blinn College students, campus civic or service organizations, or individuals needing documented volunteer or community service hours can have positive community impact and will help meet a personal need as well. Call the center and ask for Cindy to discuss a volunteer service project for you or your Club. NVCC is always ready to accept a financial contribution, as well, to help us keep the doors open and services ongoing, especially since these times have made fundraising such a challenge.
