Navidad Valley Begins Lunch & Learn, Ladies Begin Making Mask Holders
Navidad Valley Community Connections (NVCC) continues with its careful reopening, using good handwashing, temperature checks and masks. NVCC is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Schulenburg. On Friday, Crafty Corner is open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the craft room on Kessler Ave. On Monday and Wednesday, members start the day with dominos, usually 42 and chicken foot or other games/cards.
Elroy Dieringer spearheads the 42 game and is always up for new partners. Irene Janda, Carolyn Moore and Betty Gabler usually join for that first table, but everyone is welcome. The other table has a variety of folks, but Judy Klesel, Aileen Kasper, Mary Ramirez and Misty Schindler are regulars, plus others as they are able to come. Members use social distancing, hand sanitizing and masks when engaging in games.
Wednesday is bingo starting at 11 a.m. NVCC is now serving a light lunch each day. Besides the above mentioned folks, bingo regulars include Jim and Betty Miksch, Annie Fietsam, Alton Kaase and Betty Mulholland. As COVID-19 numbers in the county recede, more people are returning. NVCC will also resume its Lunch and Learn presentations beginning on Monday, Sept. 28 with guest speaker Craig Moreau, Fayette County Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security. He will be updating members on where the county and state is in reopening, current statistics and what the numbers mean and what we can look forward to in the future, as the state reopens.
Lunch and Learn starts at 12 noon. If you would like to join, call Nancy Hay at (979) 561-5092 to reserve your spot. Anyone, regardless of age is welcome, but please call ahead.
The next project the crafty sewing ladies are working on is something to hold your mask when you are not wearing it, when you are out to eat or at school. The ladies are making a small “purse” which can clip to your purse or backpack so the mask doesn’t sit on the table while you are eating or drinking. The purse holds a mask folded in half. The ladies have also started with beaded lanyards that clip to the mask, so it can be dropped down when eating or drinking, and is attractive due to the beads. If you are interested in purchasing these items and/or masks, call Nancy Hay (979) 561-5092. The ladies will customize any of the items for you.
