Sacred Heart Has First Case

Two-and-a-half months since the return to school, Sacred Heart School in La Grange has its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in a student Tuesday.

Principal LaDonna Voekel said she feels “very blessed” that the school was able to go as long as they did without having a case.

“It’s a matter of when, not if,” Voelkel said. She added that the school feels very confident in the stringent efforts they are taking to keep students safe.

LHS Staffer Positive

In another COVID first in Fayette County this week, La Grange ISD had its first staff member test positive this week.

Over the first two monthsplus of school the district has had 12 student positives.

Superintendent Bill Wagner said the same protocols and safety are in place when a staff member tests positive as when a student tests positive.

Flatonia Cancels Remote Learning

Beginning Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Flatonia ISD will return to in-person, on campus instruction for all learners. This decision was reached by the Flatonia ISD Board of Trustees at the October Board Meeting held on Monday, October 19, 2020. The Board of Trustees reviewed and considered information relating to student academic performance and attendance data for the first grading period and the halfway point of the second grading period of the school year. The information presented by FISD administration demonstrated that the negative attendance and failure rates of remote learners were sharply elevated when compared to in-person learners. Additionally, valuable feedback was also gathered and considered from campus administration, teachers, and parents over the course of the last several weeks to aide in the development of a recommendation for the best path forward for the academic success of the students of Flatonia ISD.

Flatonia ISD requests all remote learning students return to in-person classes as soon as possible, or at the latest by Tuesday, November 3, 2020, which is the start of the third six weeks grading period. This two week window allows parents of students affected by this decision time to evaluate educational options and determine the best academic plan for their student.

It is our hope that our remote learners will continue to participate in the learning opportunities offered at Flatonia ISD; however, should parents choose to pursue alternative educational opportunities for their student, we genuinely wish them nothing but success. Below is a partial list of alternative educational possibilities:

• Transfer to another school district that offers remote instruction

• Enroll in an online K-12 school

• Withdraw to homeschool

Should your family select any of the above options, please contact your student’s campus to complete the required paperwork indicating your decision for your student’s academic future.

For students who test positive for COVID-19 or are required to quarantine because of the COVID-19 virus, an asynchronous remote learning option will be available during that specified timeframe.
