La Grange Gets a New Fire Truck

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, La Grange Volunteer Fire Department took delivery of their newest fire truck, Engine 1.

The truck was manufactured by Metro Fire of Houston. LGVFD ordered the truck in June of last year. It took more than a year to build. The truck cost $650,684. The City of La Grange and LGVFD split the cost.

Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the late Norma Webb of La Grange left LGVFD $35,000 in her will. In addition, Fayette County contributes a small portion of property tax revenue to each of the fire departments in the County. Menefee said the department used Webb’s donation and some of the County’s contribution to help cover their half of the cost. Menefee said LGVFD is designing a decal to memorialize Webb. The decal will be placed prominently between the two windows on the side of the cab.

Menefee said Engine 1 will be used primarily to fight structure fires both inside and outside La Grange. It replaces a 20-year-old fire engine that will be placed in the department’s reserve fleet.
