Knotts Enjoy Visit from Granddaughter

Ron and Pam Knotts had a great weeklong visit from their granddaughter, Keylee, and they packed a lot into the week. The visit began with a funeral in Lufkin, and then the next day, Ron and Keylee drove to Rockport to see their friend, Alan Raabe from Komensky, to take in some fishing. Keylee loves to fish and had never fished salt water before, so they headed for the coast. Within ten minutes of anchoring, she had hooked a fish and fought it for over 20 minutes before landing it. It turned out to be a 35-inch, 32-lb. redfish. Keylee was fishing on a borrowed rod and reel, which snapped just as she got the fish to the side of the boat. Even with the snapped rod, Keylee still landed the huge fish. No one else on the boat that day even came close to matching Keylee’s fish that day.

During Keylee’s stay, Ron, Pam and Keylee enjoyed dining out at Flatonia’s newest restaurant, Darlin’s Diner, twice. They ate there once for breakfast and then once for lunch, checking out both menus, all while enjoying the food, atmosphere and the staff. Next, they did repair jobs around the ranch and scratched many of the “to-do” things off the list. Finally, Keylee and her Pop created two Christmas presents: one for her boyfriend (a cornhole set) and one for her best friend (a blanket ladder). Ron said he had never even heard of a blanket ladder, but said there is nothing his girl can’t do. They had a great visit overall.

Out and About

Darrell Kulak slipped off one day to visit with his brother and sister-in-law, John David and Karen Kulak in Hungerford. He also got a chance to see a few other family members.

James and I travelled to San Antonio on Thursday for another visit with the California cousins, John and Patty Keaton. Also joining the group at the Shooting Complex was my sister, Jan Anderson, who took advantage of the family all being in town to come and catch up.

Nada and Ted Burns enjoyed having their son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Meghan Burns, along with their four children, Madison, Olivia, Luke and Chase, drive in for a visit. They had lots of fun after finishing their schoolwork. They got the chance to visit with other relatives and to run around in the country.

Weather

Muldoon turned cold this past week. The cold front blew in, keeping the temperatures in the 40s for a couple of days before beginning to warm up again. There was a little rain. Several reported just over two tenths of an inch of rain. At this time, any and all moisture is welcomed, but it is still dry out here in the woods.

This weather/temperature change will bring on all kinds of allergies and colds. Be sure and check on those elderly neighbors who might not be getting around too well. They might need a hand getting their heaters set up for cooler weather, or maybe a little help somewhere else. We all need to pull together during these strange times with COVID-19 still hanging around.
