House a Total Loss After Fire

A house north of La Grange burned to the ground Sunday afternoon, Oct. 4.

La Grange Volunteer Fire Department got the call around 2:30 p.m. The house was located on the west side of US 77 about three miles north of La Grange.

Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the home was engulfed in flames when he got there, and the roof collapsed about two minutes later. Menefee said the home was occupied, and everyone got out unharmed.

The house was a total loss, however. Menefee said he did not know how the fire started.

“It had such a big head start on us, and the north wind was blowing,” Menefee said.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office came this week to investigate the cause.

La Grange VFD responded with three fire trucks and nine personnel. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. La Grange VFD extinguished the fire and left the scene around 5:08 p.m.
