On His Last Day, Muras Expresses Gratitude

Tom Muras attended his last Commissioners Court meeting as the commissioner for Pct. 4 last Thursday, Dec. 31. He has served as commissioner for 30 years. He announced last month that he would retire on Dec. 31.

“Through all the good and the bad, it was 30 years of your life that you have given to Fayette County, Texas,” said County Judge Joe Weber. “I particularly thank you for your support when I was the new county judge. The relationships we’ve been able to maintain, and doing positive things, you have been a part of that, so I really appreciate it.”

The County presented Muras with a certificate of appreciation for his years of service.

“If I had to give a certificate to everyone who helped me with this job, I’d be handing them out forever,” Muras said. “This job has been very rewarding. Guys like Drew (Brossmann) and others have made my job easier … I don’t know of anything else I wanted to do the last 30 years besides this.”

Weber appointed Drew Brossmann to replace Muras.

Brossmann previously served as Muras’s superintendent in the Pct. 4 Road and Bridge Department.

“Drew, we’re glad you’re joining the team,” Weber said. “You’re the right pick and I think you’re going to represent your precinct well.”

Brossmann thanked Muras and Weber for their support.

“First of all, I’d like to thank you, Tom, for hiring me with the County and getting me started, “Brossmann said. “If you wouldn’t have done that, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today. You’ve taught me a whole lot. I’ve been learning and watching, to know what to do and what not to do. You must have been doing it right, Tom, because you’ve been here 30 years.

“I’d like to thank the Judge,” Brossmann added. “We don’t know each other very well, but you put your faith in me, and I promise I won’t let you down. To the constituents of Pct. 4, I know they didn’t vote for me. I know I was appointed. But I will prove to you I am the right person for the job.”
