Fayetteville, RT-C End Remote Instruction

In Friday’s edition we had information from Flatonia ISD that they will soon be ending remote instruction.

Fayetteville and Round Top-Carmine ISD are also eliminating remote instruction. Here’s some information provided to parents by Superintendent Dr. Jeff Harvey:

As you know, the District has offered the option of remote instruction since the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. Approximately 5% of our students have utilized that option. The remaining 95% have been attending school in person since August 24, 2020.

I am very pleased to report that the efforts we have made to keep students and staff safe are working. These safety protocols include our teachers wearing masks and/or face shields, secondary students wearing masks and/or face shields, sanitizing all classrooms each evening, hand sanitizing stations available in our restrooms, classrooms, and hallways, and table dividers in our cafeteria. As a result, we have not seen an outbreak of COVID-19, and to date, we have only had 1 active case (1 of which has recovered). I want to thank each employee, student, and family who have worked so hard to follow our safety protocols and help ensure that FISD can continue to provide face-to-face instruction.

That information coupled with the fact that 62% of our optional online learners were failing at least two classes, the Board of Trustees has made the decision to end all optional remote instruction effective October 19, 2020. Beginning October 20, 2020, all students enrolled in FISD must report for in-person instruction. In accordance with TEA guidelines, parents have the option to request a transfer to any school district to meet their children’s educational needs for remote instruction. Students who are required to quarantine due to local, state, or federal guidelines will still have a remote instruction option during their quarantine.

Parents and students may access the District’s plan to mitigate COVID-19 spread here. I feel confident that the District’s plan to PREVENT the virus from entering the school, RESPOND to lab-confirmed cases, and MITIGATE the likelihood of COVID-19 spread inside the school is sound, and I hope our current remote learners will be joining us for in-person instruction on October 20, 2020.
