Ellinger Chamber Holds Successful Soup Fundraiser

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce held its first fundraiser since the pandemic made its appearance. The Chamber sponsored a chicken noodle soup lunch and bake sale. The crew prepared 300 gallons of homemade noodle soup. Serving by way of a drive-thru began at 10:30 a.m. and by 11:55 a.m., only ten gallons remained.

Fayetteville Brethren Church

The Fayetteville Brethren Church, located at 1022 Kramr Rd., will not have in-person services until further notice. The Unity of the Brethren has several Sunday Worship services that are available online. Brethren Churches offering live worship services at 10:15 a.m. each Sunday are: Taylor - Rev. Jimmy Hejl; Nelsonville - Rev. Groseclose; Ocker - Rev. Dr. Brad Herridge; West - Rev. Gerry Davis; and Wall at 10:45 a.m. with Revs. Tommy Tallas and Ryan Volkman. 4-H Pointsettia Sale

Fayette County 4-H Clubs are selling potted poinsettias for Christmas. It is time to order your six-inch pot of poinsettias that come in bright red, white or pink. The cost is $10 per plant. In Ellinger, you can purchase your Christmas flower from Rheagan Karisch or Brylee Brugger, members of Pure Country 4-H. You may also call Carissa Karisch at (979) 966-3276. Delivery is set for Dec. 3.

St. John’s 125th Anniversary

St. John Lutheran Church of Rutersville is celebrating its 125th anniversary in ministry this year. Bishop Mike Rinehart will officiate a parking lot worship on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. This will be a joint worship for the Shared Lutheran Ministry. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs and social distance if that suits you. A major part of St. John’s

A major part of St. John’s mission is helping others in the community, so they are asking all worshippers to bring donations for AMEN on that Sunday. Donations of Progresso healthy canned soup, bagged beans, jelly, boxed cereal, Hamburger Helper, peanut butter, evaporated milk, wheat pasta and oatmeal are items needed. You may also write checks as a donation; they can be made out to SLM and they will write one check to cover food donations. The goal is to raise $125 and 125 lbs. of food.

Trump Train

Fayette County’s Trump Train visited Ellinger on Saturday, Oct. 17, at about 5 p.m. The caravan of patriotic cars and trucks snaked its way through our community in a peaceful but lively manner.

Ellinger’s Incorporation

Don’t forget that the issue of Ellinger’s Incorporation will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot. There seems to be some controversy over the decision to incorporate. One can see ‘Vote No’ signs in some yards and ‘Vote Yes’ in others. As I was told, our sales tax will only increase by one cent; no taxes can be levied until a charter is put in place, as well as the five year plan. Residents will have a vote as to what rules will be put into place. Businesses along State Hwy 71 are attracting customers. These visitors are spending money here that can be collected in the form of the sales tax increase, if incorporation passes. More visitors to our community puts a strain on the water and sewer utilities. Some of the tax dollars collected could be used to help pay for low interest loans for future in frastructure, such as a new sewer plant.
