Czhilispiel 48 a ‘Limited Edition’
Czhilispiel 48 has been dubbed the “Limited Edition” version of the annual festival in Flatonia. Because of the pandemic there is a limited schedule activities October 24 and 25.
The “Limited Edition” includes the CZ48 Golf Tournament, 5K Run/Walk, a Virtual Market, Pageant and the Grand Parade.
Here’s a roundup of everything that is happening:
• The Czhilispiel 48 5K Run/ Walk will take place at 10:00 am on East South Main Street by the Gazebo area this year. Registration and packet pick up will be from 9 to 9:30 am. The race will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and the route will run south on Market Street, go east on East Old Hallettsville Rd, turn around and return to East South Main St. CDC guidelines will be in place – social distancing and sanitization of hands and masked must be worn at the start, then once distanced from each other, and then masks can be removed to run/walk. Top finishers in each run/walk category will receive a medal. To register in advance for the CZ48 5K, go the www. flatoniachamber.com, then the Czhilispiel tab, then 5K. You can register online, or print off a PDF and send it in by mail at PO Box 610 – Flatonia, TX 78941 or drop off at the Chamber Office. The registration fee by October 13 is $25 with a guaranteed T-shirt. After Oct. 13 or day of the fee is $25 with no shirt. If shirts are available, they will be an extra $10. Online registration will close on Friday, October 23 at 4 p.m.
• CZ48 Virtual Market – Czhilispiel will try something new this year since the street market will not take place, a “CZ48 Virtual Market.”
Organizers want to support those arts and craft vendors who cannot attend this year but can shop online for unique items. If you would like to set up a virtual market booth, go to the Flatonia Chamber website at www. flatoniachamber.com. Click on Czhilispiel – Virtual Market. Booths are $50 and will include a logo and link to the vendor’s business. Your booth will be viewable from the time you sign up through Czhilispiel weekend, October 25. Shoppers can just click online on their virtual market stall and shop away.
• CZ48 Golf Tournament - The Czhilispiel 48 Golf Tournament is a two-person scramble with tee times of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Entry fee is $250 per team with no mulligans. The fee includes: green fee, lunch, two beverage tickets and a skins game in your flight. Carts are extra. Flights will be determined by players’ handicaps – handicaps will be verified. Prizes will be awarded based on a full field of 36 teams. First place is $1,200; second place is $800; third place is $500. In case of a tie, the money will be split. A free practice round will take place on Friday, Oct 23. Gun raffle tickets will also be available on drawn on Oct. 24. • Czhilispiel 48 Pageant – The Czhilispiel 48 Scholarship Pageant is set for Saturday, October 24 at 5 p.m. in the Flatonia ISD Cafetorium. All CDC guidelines will be in place and adhered to. Masks will be required for entry and will be re quired to wear them the entire Pageant. Vouchers will be limited to four per contestant only. It will not be open to the public because of limited capacity. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 per student with vouchers at the door.
•Czhilispiel 48 Grand Parade – The Czhilispiel 48 Grand Parade will be held on Sunday, October 25 at noon. The Women’s Action Guild has chosen the Flatonia Area Health Care workers as their parade marshals. Please contact the Flatonia Chamber if you wish to join in as a parade marshal at (361) 865-3920. Parade check-in time is from 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.at the Flatonia ISD football field parking lot. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the parade starting at noon. The parade route from the parking lot will head west on East Old Hallettsville Rd, then north on Converse St., west on South Main St., south on Penn St., and then back to the parking lot. The deadline to enter the parade is Friday, Oct. 23. All CDC guidelines will be in place for the safety of the parade entries and spectators. Throwing or handing out any candy or items WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Social Distancing will be enforced and masks are mandatory for parade entries and spectators. Food and drinks will be available on South Main St. at local establishments.
