County Urging Flu Shots Amid COVID Pandemic

A note from Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau:

The Texas Department of State Health Services and The United States Center for Disease Control are recommending everyone six months old and older to get a Flu Vaccine. This is more important this year than ever when considering the concurrent risk of COVID-19 and its potential effects on the healthcare system during the traditional cold/flu season.

In Fayette County, the flu vaccine is ready and available at most doctors’ offices and all of the pharmacies.

• If you are over the age of 65, your doctor or pharmacist may recommend a high potency vaccine.

• Please call your provider first to see if the type of vaccine you need is available

• If you are unable to go inside or prefer to isolate, most of the providers will be glad to come out to your car to give you your flu shot. Please call ahead to verify.

• Children age seven and under may require a doctor’s recommendation.

Pharmacies that are currently administering the flu vaccine:

• Apothecary (also has COVID testing available Mon.-Fri.) in Schulenburg

• HEB in La Grange

• Walmart in La Grange

• Pharmhouse in La Grange

• Main St. Pharmacy in Flatonia
