Collision Near Hostyn Sends Four to Hospital

Woman Ejected From Vehicle But Expected to Survive Accident

A head-on collision on US 77 near the Hostyn cutoff sent four people to the hospital with injuries. All are recovering, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck happened around 12:26 p.m. a short distance north of the intersection of US 77 and FM 2436. Trooper Mason Hartnett with the Texas Highway Patrol investigated the accident. He attributed the wreck to driver inattention.

Hartnett said 51-year-old Janet Grayson of La Grange was driving a white 2019 Chevy Silverado north on US 77. Hartnett said the pickup entered the southbound lane and struck the left front corner of a 2020 Hyundai driving in the opposite direction.

Grayson was ejected from the pickup. Hartnett said she was not wearing a seatbelt. The pickup went off the roadway and rolled over. The Hyundai also left the roadway.

The driver of the Hyundai was 65-year-old Patricia Brending of Brenham. Traveling with her was her 66-year-old husband and an 8-year-old grandson. All three sustained injuries, although they were all wearing seat belts, according to Hartnett.

Fayette County EMS transported Grayson, Brending and Brending’s two passengers to Dell Seton Hospital in Austin. Hartnett said all four were recovering.

Hartnett said charges for traffic violations may be forthcoming once the investigation is complete.
