Catholic Daughters Court No. 1962 Meets
The regular monthly meeting of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 was called to order by Regent Shirley Antosh on Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Community Center. Silent roll call of officers found a quorum present with all officers and 11 members in attendance.
Vice Regent Carolyn Weishuhn led the opening prayer followed by prayer petitions and the singing of the opening Ode. Regent Antosh remembered past members Emily Cernoch (passed on Aug. 27) and Sandra Tomanec (passed on Aug. 28) with a special intention.
Fr. Bob Knippenberg, pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul, Plum and Queen of the Holy Rosary, Hostyn, was the guest speaker. He had a beautiful message about the importance of the vocation of Catholic women in the church and for humanity.
The minutes of the Aug. 24 meeting were approved as read. The national and local correspondence was read.
The Treasurer, Judy Evanicky, reported a working balance as of September 28 of $6,104.78 By general consent, the following bills were approved for payment: $11 from Marilyn Kothmann for postage and stamps; $52.14 from Marilyn Kothmann for for newsletters; and $38.10 from Mary Lou Anderle for cardstock and labels for dinner fundraiser tickets.
Financial Secretary Marilyn Kothmann reported 306 members with 99% paid and 1% unpaid.
Membership Report was given by Stacy Ryza. Spiritual Enhancement Report was given by Mary Lou Anderle and Barbara Brauner.
Quality of Life Report was given by Cindy Dippel. Special Occasion Gifts Report was given by Regent Antosh in the absence of chair Emma Proske. Four cards were sent. Publicity Report was given by Recording Secretary Mary Lou Anderle.
Legislation Report was given by Vice Regent Carolyn Weishuhn in the absence of chair Terri Wagner.
Texas State Court Memorial Enrollment Report for September was given by Frances Guenther. $171 was sent to the Texas State Court.
Memorials Committee Report was given by Elizabeth Kallus.
Scholarship Report was given by Elizabeth Kallus. Scholarship Fund Balance is $14,955.90. Court Annunciation No. 1962 Scholarship Committee moves that Katelyn Bernsen should meet the requirement to receive the local court scholarship, i.e. complete the scholarship application to the CDA Texas State Court Memorial Scholarship in the year 2021, that an exception be made to the scholarship criteria in order to help Katelyn Bernsen by awarding her a Court Annunciation No. 1962 Memorial Scholarship and also a Memorial Scholarship for being an Outstanding Member of Court Annunciation No. 1962 Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas at the time we award scholarships in 2021, when she will be a senior in high school and also a sophomore at Blinn College, because she is taking all dual credit courses as a full time college student, and will graduate in 2022 with an associate’s degree in English, with no plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Motion passed. Religious Education Report was given by Mary Lou Anderle in the absence of chair Debbie Greene.
Unfinished Business: Court Annunciation No. 1962 observed National CDA Day with Mass on Sunday, Oct. 18 at the 9 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church in La Grange. Court members served in the ministry duties. The Court also received new members at this Mass.
Court St. Michael No. 559 of Weimar celebrated their 100th Anniversay on Oct. 11 with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Weimar. Stacy Ryza made a motion that the Court gives a $25 monetary gift to Court St. Michael No. 559, Weimar, in addition to the Texas State Court Memorial Scholarship Enrollment that is given per our standing rules for their 100th Anniversary. Motion passed.

The Raffle Chair for the 2021 State Convention is requesting donations of a purse for the raffle. Mary Lou Anderle made a motion to donate a Consuela bag (donated by Judy Evanicky) to the silent auction for the State Convention and that we give a monetary donation of $25 to the raffle for the State Convention. Motion passed.
New Business: Signing of the Proclamation for National CDA Day by Mayor Moerbe was on Monday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Knights of Columbus Community Center. There will be a meal after the service. Court Annunciation will remember seven members who passed away this past year.
Regent Antosh has received the new COL and contest forms and she will get those to all chairmen soon.
The financial review is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, at 5:15 p.m.
The November dinner fundraiser is Thursday, Nov. 19. Committee members are Mary Lou Anderle (tickets and workers), Marilyn Kothmann (money), Peggy Sulik (advertising), Carolyn Weishuhn (tickets) and Shirley Antosh (tickets and workers). Tickets need to be returned by Sunday, Nov. 8.
The annual Christmas Raffle is normally held on the day of the Christmas Party in December. Frances Guenther made a motion to hold the raffle drawing at the Christmas Party in December, and if there is no party, the drawing will be held at our January meeting. Motion passed.
Business from the Floor: National Fun D Calendar fundraiser is in full swing. You should receive something in the mail.
