Carmine Park Getting Improvements

Carmine’s city park, Muehlbrad-Albers City Park, has newly undergone some major changes and improvements continue to be made.

President of Carmine State Bank Chris Coufal recently presented a $2,500 check to the Carmine Economic Development Corporation (EDC) as a donation towards a new basketball court to be installed near the park in early November with the flex court covering in the Round-Top Carmine school colors. This contribution is part of a matching gift required by a $25,000 fall 2019 grant from LCRA which was given to the EDC for the installation of the court and the sidewalks at the park which were installed in January of this year to complete a circular walking path through the park.

The basketball court and the sidewalks have not been the only new additions and improvements to the park in recent years. Around 2018 the Carmine EDC worked on repairs to the bridge, the swings, and the playscape with trees being trimmed and the landscaping cleaned up. In 2019 the Lions Club donated funds to install a whimsical lion fountain near the playscape and a new water fountain was installed at the pavilion. A formal flag and memorial plaza were also created.

In the spring of 2021, the Carmine EDC plans to install a bench and a water fountain near the basketball court and maybe a picnic table with a shade structure, plus completion of the repairs of the park lighting that was damaged during a May 2016 flood. In the future, the Carmine EDC plans to put in some universal exercise stations along the paths and add additional walking paths on the east side of State Loop 458 as more funding is obtained.

Muehlbrad-Albers City Park, which consists of 1.053 acres, was donated to the City of Carmine in 1982 as a communi ty park for all to enjoy by Mr. & Mrs. Fred Muehlbrad and Mr. & Mrs. Emil Albers. The park and the pavilion are available to rent for special events by calling (979) 278-3273

For the residents of Carmine, the Muehlbrad-Albers City Park has always been a great place to gather however when COVID-19 imposed restrictions it became an even better place for the residents to get out and enjoy and will continue to be with these new improvements.
