• Caldwell Mayor Norris McManus said some comments made about him during the last mayor’s campaign were untrue and he issued a public statement refuting them at the city council’s Nov. 17 meeting. Mc-Manus said he was accused by one citizen of changing church affiliations to get votes and by another resident of selling drugs and stealing from the city all of which are false, he said. Mc-Manus said he wanted to go on record to the council and citizens to refute the lies.
• The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for new leads in a cold case bank robbery in Snook in 2011. It happened at the old location of the Citizens State Bank on October 7, 2011. Deputies arrived at the scene after getting a call that two men arrived in the bank with guns and demanded money. “They fled the scene in a vehicle, and we’re actually chased by a local Justice of the Peace that happened to be entering the bank at the time, and their vehicle ended up being located a few minutes later abandoned in Burleson County,” said John Pollock, Chief Deputy at the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office. Since then, the trail has gone cold. “It’s something that we have not been willing to let go of, so we are taking another look at this case to see again if we can find any information, and any tips from the public to help us move on who may have committed this crime,” said Deputy Pollock. The Sheriff’s Office says they believe two men were in the bank, and expect there to be multiple other people involved. The statute of limitations for this case is coming up in a little less than a year.
The Sealy News
• Christmas came early for the students of Sealy ISD as a $2.8 million donation was made to the Sealy Scholarship Endowment Fund. The donation comes from Darryl Randerson through the Darryl Randerson Trust, a part of the Agnese S. Randerson Estate. Randerson, 83, said he and his mother used to talk about ways to honor her parents, Joe and Elizabeth Schier, who first purchased a 1,000-acre tract near Sealy back in 1920. The money comes from the sale of land on the west side of Sealy not far from where the Walmart Distribution Center is located. The money raised by the fund is used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors from Sealy High School. Prior to the Randerson donation, the fund had $225,000 in it. The Sealy Scholarship Endowment Fund board consists of Leroy Zapalac, Bill Burttschell, Brad Burttschell, Gary Pless, Sealy ISD Board of Trustees President Ryan Reichardt, Superintendent Bryan Hallmark, SHS Principal Megan Oliver, and Athletic Director Shane Mobley.
