Amtrak Passenger Train Rolls Through La Grange, West Point & Muldoon

There was a time when passenger trains rolled through La Grange regularly, but that stopped decades ago.

But Monday, an Amtrak passenger train did pass by.

There was a Maintenance of Way work window at Rosenberg so the train couldn’t shoot straight through to Flatonia and then west from there as usual.

They were replacing the interlocking where the two tracks intersect. So they cut up north on the BNSF Galveston Sub to Sealy then over on the Union Pacific (UP) Smithville Sub through town here, and then at West Point, turned south on the UP Cuero Sub through Muldoon and then into Flatonia where they got back on the UP Glidden Sub as their normal route.

Baker said this was the first time in several years that they have made this detour.

The train was the Sunset Limited which leaves New Orleans and goes to Los Angeles with stops along the way.

Word travelled around that the train was going to come through La Grange and several locals watched it as it passed by Dairy Queen in La Grange.

Those spectators included Andrew Baker and his wife Melissa Baker, Ryder Kallus and his sister Teagen from Fayetteville area, Gary and Gail Lincke, Carey Sherrer and his brother Myron of San Antonio. Carey is a retired Amtrak engineer.
