Amidst Pandemic, Trail of Lights Not Only Opening But Expanding
More Nights, Longer Trail Offsetting Lack of Entertainers, Refreshments
The grounds of Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will be transformed with beautiful holiday lights during the evenings in December.
This year, the popular holiday tradition has been expanded from five nights to 14 nights allowing plenty of opportunities for a safe and socially distant experience. Even though Santa won’t be able to visit this year due to his extra responsibilities at the North Pole, guests can still enjoy walking the trails with new light displays and enhanced photo opportunities in a safe, outdoor venue.
The exterior of the Kreische House will be decorated according to nineteen-century German tradition.
“We are so delighted to be able to continue the long tradition of Trails of Lights in La Grange through these times of COVID. With added precautions, our outside venue allows us to provide you and your family with great holiday memories,” said Dr. Marsha Hendrix, site manager.
The Trail of Lights will be open 5:30-8:00pm on the evenings of December 4-6, 10-13, and 17-23. Admission fees are $5 for adults, $1 for children ages 3-12, and free for children under 3. Friday and Saturday evenings are anticipated to be busy. Visitors who join us on one of the Thursday or Sunday evenings will receive a free holiday ornament craft kit (Limit one per family group while supplies last).

BACKGROUND: Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites are two of the 33 historic sites operated by the Texas Historical Commission. Kreische Brewery tells the real story of master stonemason and German immigrant, Heinrich Kreische and his family, who built a large home and one of the first commercial breweries in Texas. Monument Hill tells the story of the men who died during the Dawson Massacre of September 1842 and the ill-fated Mier expedition of November 1842, also known as the “black bean” incident.
