$7.5 Million in Fentanyl Found

On Tuesday Nov. 3, Fayette County Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped a Chevy Silverado on Interstate 10 at 1:09 pm for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver Thumann became suspicious that the driver may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics and Kolt conducted an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observed Kolt alert for the presence of illegal narcotics. Thumann searched the vehicle and discovered approximately 18.5 pounds of Fentanyl inside the vehicle’s battery. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $7.5 million dollars, reportedly enough to kill over four million people. Approximately three grams of cocaine was also located inside the vehicle and in the driver’s possession. The driver Asuncion Garcia (53) from Laredo was arrested for Felony Possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
