215 Vaccinated Here So Far

There have been 215 people in Fayette County that have been vaccinated for COVID-19 so far, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

In all of those cases, those residents have received just the first of two required shots to be fully vaccinated.

By contrast, only 50 people in Lee County had gotten the vaccine as of Wednesday.

In Fayette County vaccines are being administered at St. Mark’s Medical Center and HEB Pharmacy. Initially vaccines were being limited to doctors, healthcare workers and staff, EMTs/Paramedics, First Responders, and others that deal directly with patients, but then was being expanded to folks in the following categories:

• People 65 years of age and older

• People 16 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as but not limited to:

Cancer

Chronic kidney disease

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

Heart conditions, such as heart failure, artery disease, etc.

Solid organ transplantation

Obesity and severe obesity

Pregnancy

Sickle cell disease

Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Residents are advised to discuss with their physicians if they should receive the vaccine, and any medical situations that are unique to the patient.

COVID Numbers

According to Fayette County officials, as of Wednesday, there were nine confirmed active cases of coronavirus in the county along with 63 probable cases. Some 1,135 county residents have recovered from the virus and the county was saying 15 people here have died from the virus.

The Texas Department of State Health Services continues to post different numbers here. They were reporting on Wednesday that there were an estimated 176 active cases in Fayette County with an estimated 1,052 recoveries and 32 deaths.
