2020 Fayette County Fair Cancelled

The Fayette County Fair Association issued the following statement Monday night, July 27:

The Fayette County Fair Association Board of Directors and Members have been meeting the last couple of months and cautiously moving forward while hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. We have met with county and city officials discussing the challenges set before us and them. Although the worst hasn’t happened, we are aware of the risk involved with hosting a few thousand attendees. Canceling the Fayette County Fair has probably never been done, but to risk an outbreak just as school and college begin would not be a wise choice. Our intent has been to wait until about a month before the fair to make a final decision and here we are. So it is with a heavy heart we will, under the advice and direction of the city and county officials, cancel the 2020 Fayette County Fair.

We will, however, be sponsoring the Commercial Heifer Show and Sale, the Livestock Show, the Queen’s Pageant, the BBQ Cookoff and Saturday Parade if the parade can be worked out. These things can be done in an orderly and safe manner. The youth of the county have spent plenty of time and money on the projects and it would be sad to see them not be able to show or sell. 

Our Queens Court has been busy selling tickets, if not for this year then for next, and they deserve a pageant and the scholarships promised them. 

The Go Texan BBQ Cook off will allow local and area cookers to qualify for next year's championship in Houston. 

The parade, although it will be different, will hopefully give our graduating seniors something to participate in as a class since they have been robbed of so much their last year these details are still being worked on. 

The Mission of the Fayette County Fair Association is to promote agriculture and youth education. By sponsoring these things, we hope to somehow help this cause.

We are excited to announce that we will be having a “Virtual Fair” online and it will take place at the time the fair would have been. Stay tuned for more details as we work to participate in this new adventure.
