2,000 Celebrate Schmeckenfest in Downtown LG

Santa and Mrs. Claus were, of course, the parade marshalls.

As the sun went down, the sidewalks filled up with people sampling wassail and other goodies. Some vendors sold out of food.

The Fayette County Fair Queen’s Royalty Court float, part of the parade that began the night’s festivities.

Best Unleaded Wassail was won, for the second consecutive year by La Grange High School German Club. Left to right are Jill Newton, Rory Halpain (Wassailmeister for German Club), and Hannah Wilson.

This year’s Schmeckenmeister (Best Leaded Wassail) was made by the folks from Thrivent Financial, above.

After only a few hundred attended last year’s Schmeckenfest mid-pandemic, an estimated 2,000 attended La Grange’s 14th annual downtown Christmas fest Thursday. The weather was warm, and so was the wassaill, served by 29 booths. People voted for the best, winners shown below.
